UiPath calls on Gulf enterprises to focus on measurable AI outcomes for success

Published:

UiPath is urging Gulf enterprises to shift their focus from AI experimentation to achieving measurable business outcomes, emphasizing the importance of governance and workforce skills. During the UiPath FUSION event in Dubai, Karl Crowther, Vice President for the Middle East, Africa, India, and Southeast Asia, highlighted the need for clear objectives and coordinated workflows as organizations integrate AI agents and human workers into their operations.

As enterprises in the UAE and Saudi Arabia progress in their AI maturity, Crowther noted that both countries have moved past the initial question of whether to adopt AI. The UAE is reportedly ahead in scaling automation, while Saudi Arabia is making significant investments to catch up, particularly through its Vision 2030 initiative. Crowther stated, “The UAE is scaling, while Saudi Arabia is putting platforms in place to enable that scale.”

Challenges in Achieving Measurable Outcomes

Despite the advancements, many Gulf enterprises have struggled to translate AI pilots into tangible business results. Crowther pointed out that previous initiatives often lacked a clear focus, with organizations running pilots merely to comply with mandates rather than to achieve specific outcomes. This has led to a reassessment of strategies, particularly in sectors like banking and government, where companies are now prioritizing high-value processes that promise a meaningful return on investment.

“Organisations are asking what a successful outcome looks like, how to define it and which high-value processes could deliver a meaningful return on investment,” Crowther explained. This shift towards a more strategic approach is seen as a critical factor in enhancing the success rates of AI initiatives.

Orchestration and Human Accountability

Central to UiPath’s strategy is the concept of orchestration, which involves integrating AI agents, human workers, and various processes to achieve comprehensive outcomes. Crowther emphasized that successful automation requires not just technology but also human oversight to ensure accountability. He noted that some organizations in the UAE have already implemented agentic use cases that operate across entire processes, with humans retaining responsibility for the final outcomes.

“The value comes from bringing those elements together into a complete workflow,” he said, highlighting the necessity for clear roles within the automation framework.

Workforce Enablement and Upskilling

As organizations adopt AI technologies, equipping the workforce to effectively utilize these tools becomes paramount. Crowther stressed the importance of upskilling, suggesting that organizations should focus on enabling their employees to adapt to new roles that AI creates. He noted that when technology supplements human roles effectively, employees can concentrate on higher-value tasks rather than repetitive ones.

“My strongest advice is to prioritise enablement and upskilling so that people can use these tools effectively,” Crowther concluded, underscoring the transformative potential of AI when combined with a skilled workforce.
