Celebrating the Bonds: UAE and Kuwait National Day

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is set to join Kuwait in honoring its National Day on February 25th, an event that symbolizes the strong fraternal ties and strategic partnership shared between these two nations. This celebration not only highlights their relationship but also emphasizes the camaraderie between their peoples and leaderships.

Nationwide Celebrations Under a Unifying Theme

In keeping with the vision of UAE leadership, a week of festivities unfolded across all emirates from January 29 to February 4, 2026. This celebratory period carried the theme “UAE and Kuwait: Brothers Forever,” a testament to the longstanding friendship and mutual respect between the two countries. The initiative underlines the UAE’s genuine appreciation for Kuwait and the cultural ties that unite their citizens.

A Continuous Commitment to Strengthening Relations

Bilateral partnerships between the UAE and Kuwait have made significant strides under the guidance of the two countries’ leaders: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE and H.H. Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait. Their leadership continues to cultivate and reinforce these relationships, pushing them into new realms of cooperation.

Key Developments in Bilateral Initiatives

As part of their ongoing collaboration, the recently convened UAE-Kuwait Joint Higher Committee held its sixth session in Kuwait. This meeting led to the signing of five critical memoranda of understanding and executive programs. Notable agreements included initiatives focused on consumer protection, tourism cooperation for 2026 to 2028, and efforts to combat corruption and enhance public sector oversight.

Exploring Economic Ties

The economic and trade relations between the UAE and Kuwait are robust and continually evolving. Over the past decade, from 2013 to 2022, bilateral trade reached an impressive AED 317 billion. This figure includes AED 63 billion in imports, AED 85.5 billion in non-oil exports, and AED 168.5 billion in re-exports, highlighting the dynamic trade ecosystem that benefits both nations.

For instance, within the first nine months of 2025, non-oil trade between the two countries totaled AED 38.8 billion, marking a significant growth rate of 7.6%. Notably, UAE imports from Kuwait saw an increase of 3.6% in the third quarter of 2025, while re-exports also climbed by 4%.

A Trading Partnership of Significance

Kuwait stands as a key trading ally for the UAE, ranked as Kuwait’s second-largest trading partner worldwide and its foremost Arab and Gulf partner. The UAE accounts for nearly 20% of Kuwait’s non-oil exports, underscoring the substantial economic interdependence between the two nations.

The Role of Tourism in Economic Relations

Tourism serves as a crucial component of the economic relationship between the UAE and Kuwait. In 2025, approximately 400,000 Kuwaiti visitors traveled to the UAE, indicating a nearly 6% increase compared to the previous year. The convenience of travel is emphasized by the 174 weekly direct flights operated by national carriers, making cross-border movement smooth and accessible.

Cultural Collaborations for Mutual Growth

Cultural exchanges are another vital area of collaboration. Both nations have formalized several agreements aimed at sharing expertise, fostering deep-rooted ties that benefit both societies.

The educational landscape further reinforces this partnership, with over 1,725 Kuwaiti students currently enrolled in UAE universities. This influx of students paves the way for enriched academic and cultural interactions, creating lasting ties between the two nations’ future leaders.

By celebrating their national day together and reinforcing their commitments across various sectors, the UAE and Kuwait showcase a model of cooperation that serves as an inspiration for regional partnerships.
