ALBADDAD Launches New Botswana City, Projected to Generate 37,500 Jobs and Transform Regional Trade
Strategic Partnership to Foster Economic Growth
Dubai, UAE: ALBADDAD Holding, a UAE-based leader in modular construction and exhibition infrastructure, has unveiled plans for New Botswana City, a transformative mixed-use development aimed at establishing Botswana as a key hub for trade, tourism, and international business. This initiative is made possible through a strategic partnership with the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC), the primary investment arm of the Government of Botswana.
The project, which spans 1,240,000 square meters and carries a projected value of $1.9 billion, will unfold in three phases. It is designed to enhance Gaborone’s status as a regional center for business and investment, creating a vibrant ecosystem where residents can live, work, and engage in commerce daily.
Comprehensive Urban Development
New Botswana City will feature 51 residential towers organized into 17 integrated complexes, alongside six commercial and office buildings, five international hotels, and a bustling boulevard district. This district will include retail outlets, restaurants, cafes, and entertainment facilities, providing a comprehensive urban experience.
The development is expected to create between 25,000 and 37,500 direct and indirect jobs once fully operational, significantly contributing to the local economy.
Groundbreaking Ceremony Highlights Commitment
The groundbreaking ceremony for New Botswana City was officiated by Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, President of Botswana. He emphasized the importance of the project in generating national value and attracting global investment. He stated that the initiative must demonstrate how strategic land can be transformed into economic opportunities while respecting national priorities.
The ALBADDAD Botswana Global Exhibition & Convention Centre, a 124,000-square-meter facility valued at $292 million, will serve as the flagship development and the first phase of the city. This venue is set to become one of Africa’s largest and most advanced exhibition centers, providing essential infrastructure for trade, investment, and business tourism.
Economic Diversification and Job Creation
Dr. Alfateen Hussein Albaddad, Chairman of ALBADDAD Holding, expressed pride in partnering with the BDC for this significant project. He highlighted the potential of New Botswana City to attract investment, generate employment, and strengthen Botswana’s position in the global economy. He noted that the true measure of the project lies not in its physical structures but in the opportunities it creates for the people of Botswana.
The centre will not only host exhibitions and conferences but will also aim to bolster entrepreneurship and support the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) ecosystem in Botswana. The anticipated job creation will embed economic opportunities across various sectors, including hospitality, retail, and professional services.
Long-Term Vision for Economic Impact
Oteng Keabetswe, Managing Director of BDC, remarked that the project aims to convert a strategic national asset into measurable economic value for Botswana. He emphasized the importance of job creation, skills transfer, and local procurement as key components of the project’s broader return on investment.
The ALBADDAD Botswana Global Exhibition & Convention Centre is designed to host a year-round calendar of international exhibitions, trade fairs, and corporate events. This sustained activity will foster ongoing opportunities for business growth and international engagement, generating economic impact beyond the venue itself.
ALBADDAD’s Global Reach and Expertise
Founded in 1971, ALBADDAD has expanded its operations to over 50 markets, employing more than 7,000 people. The company has played a pivotal role in significant regional developments, including COP28 Dubai and GITEX Africa. With extensive manufacturing capabilities and a track record of delivering large-scale infrastructure projects, ALBADDAD is well-positioned to oversee the New Botswana City project throughout its lifecycle.
The group integrates planning, design, manufacturing, construction, and operations into a cohesive model, ensuring that developments remain relevant and economically impactful long after completion.
For New Botswana City, ALBADDAD will leverage its international network of exhibitors, event organizers, and corporate partners to support the growth of the exhibition center and the broader destination, ultimately establishing it as a new hub for trade and investment in Southern Africa.
