American designer Tommy Hilfiger showcased his spring/summer 2027 collection at Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel on the first official day of New York Fashion Week, as reported by ARN News Centre. The collection featured a youthful blend of oversized polo shirts and plaid bucket hats, reflecting a vibrant aesthetic aimed at appealing to Gen Z.
The runway show took place on Thursday, with guests seated in plush green armchairs arranged throughout the hotel’s carpeted lobby. This venue holds personal significance for Hilfiger, who resided in a penthouse there with his wife for over a decade.
Model Gigi Hadid opened the show, donning loose-fitting red pants and a tan suit jacket complemented by a navy blue bucket hat. The collection prominently featured Hilfiger’s signature bright red and navy blue palette, alongside bold colours and patterns, including bright yellow pants and a flowing silk dress.
Before the show, Hilfiger expressed his excitement about returning to New York Fashion Week after a hiatus, stating that the collection represents a fresh take on his classic designs. He emphasized the goal of reworking and reintroducing these classics to a younger audience.
At 75 years old, Hilfiger continues to lead his namesake brand, which he launched in 1985. The brand, now owned by PVH Corp, has embraced a “Prep Made Current” aesthetic, drawing inspiration from traditional American styles.
The front row of the show included notable figures such as model Kate Moss, singers Camila Cabello and Jisoo, New York Knicks players Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart, and actor Patrick Schwarzenegger. The atmosphere was enhanced by violinists performing hip-hop renditions, including Jay-Z’s “Empire State of Mind,” followed by a live performance from singer Slayyyter.
Christian Siriano’s Collection
On the same day, American designer Christian Siriano also presented his spring/summer 2027 collection, which featured corsets and embroidered fabrics inspired by the romance and fantasy of 18th-century France. Siriano described his collection as a blend of mythical and dream-like elements, transitioning from monochrome lace dresses to vibrant hot-pink and floral gowns.
New York Fashion Week is scheduled to run until September 15, showcasing approximately 70 runway shows and designer presentations. Hilfiger and Siriano’s collections follow presentations from other renowned designers, including Ralph Lauren, Coach, and Diane von Furstenberg.
