Dubai: 21-Year-Old Callum Mughal Transforms from Student to AI Entrepreneur in Thriving Tech Hub
Dubai has become a focal point for innovation, attracting young talent eager to make their mark. One such individual is Callum Mughal, a 21-year-old British expatriate who relocated to Dubai seven months ago with his family. This decision, he asserts, has been validated daily since his arrival.
Mughal, a former computer science student from Birmingham, has always had a keen interest in technology. He recognized the significant impact artificial intelligence (AI) was poised to have on various industries. Driven by a desire to solve real-world problems, he began exploring locations where AI was a primary focus. Silicon Valley was the first name that came to mind, but Dubai quickly followed.
Despite never having visited Dubai before, Mughal felt a connection to the city. He discussed the idea with his family, and they collectively decided to make the move. Reflecting on this choice, he stated, “Honestly, it’s been one of the better decisions I’ve taken.”
Launching DaitaFix: A New Venture in AI
Today, Mughal co-manages DaitaFix with his 23-year-old brother, Faron. The company specializes in helping businesses adapt to the evolving landscape of information search in the AI era. Traditionally, businesses have relied on search engine optimization (SEO) to enhance their online visibility. However, with the rise of AI platforms, many organizations are not optimized for these new technologies. DaitaFix aims to bridge this gap.
Mughal emphasized the importance of adapting to these changes, noting that “the majority of businesses aren’t optimized to show up on these AI platforms, so we focus on helping businesses optimize for it.” He believes that Dubai provides an ideal environment for such innovation.
A Supportive Community in Dubai
Mughal has found Dubai to be markedly different from the UK, describing it as having a vibrant community atmosphere. He noted that people are generally more polite and supportive, creating an environment where everyone feels equal. This sense of community has been beneficial for Mughal, who has found that ambition and drive are not isolating experiences in the city. Networking events and casual conversations often lead to valuable connections.
He remarked, “Being in that environment where everyone is moving, and putting one leg in front of the other, it’s a really positive experience.” This philosophy resonates with a well-known quote from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE: “In the UAE, in Dubai, I don’t care if you are a gazelle or a lion – when you wake up, you better start running.” Mughal finds this sentiment motivating, encouraging him to remain hungry and passionate about his work.
A Shift from Part-Time to Full-Time Entrepreneurship
Initially, Mughal launched DaitaFix as a part-time endeavor while continuing his studies. However, he quickly realized his passion for the business and decided to pursue it full-time. He expressed excitement about waking up each day ready to tackle new challenges, which led him to shift his focus from full-time studies to full-time entrepreneurship.
Faron, his older brother, has been an ideal partner in this journey. Sharing a similar passion for technology and business, the brothers have formed a strong bond that enhances their collaborative efforts. Mughal humorously described their relationship, stating, “He’s two years older than me, but we’re incredibly close; we’re basically twins.”
Embracing a Future-Focused Mindset
Upon arriving in Dubai, Mughal quickly recognized the city’s commitment to innovation. This was further underscored when the UAE government announced plans to adopt Agentic AI in 50% of government services and operations. Mughal was not surprised by this development, noting, “One thing about Dubai is that it moves fast. When I came here and saw the autonomous cars on the roads, it was a massive indicator for me that this place is focused on innovation and technology.”
He views Dubai as a central hub for testing and implementing new technologies, stating, “This is the center of innovation; this is where things get tested and put into production. It all starts here.”
As a young entrepreneur in the AI sector, Mughal is guided by the motto, “Nothing will change if nothing changes.” This mantra fuels his determination to make meaningful changes that align with his aspirations in a city that embodies the spirit of progress.
