SCG Accelerates Low-Carbon Transition at Cemtech Asia 2026, Reinforcing ASEAN Leadership in Sustainable Cement Solutions
BANGKOK, THAILAND – SCG, the leading low-carbon cement manufacturer in ASEAN, co-hosted Cemtech ASIA 2026, a premier conference and exhibition for the global cement sector, from June 14 to 17, 2026. This event brought together industry executives and experts from around the world, united by a commitment to accelerate the low-carbon transition and achieve Net Zero goals. Participants explored innovative solutions, expanded business networks, and addressed the challenges posed by tightening environmental regulations and resource conservation demands.
At the event, SCG showcased its dedication to advancing the cement industry through significant low-carbon innovations. Mr. Surachai Nimlaor, President of SCG Cement and Green Solutions, emphasized the company’s commitment to developing groundbreaking technologies that reduce resource consumption and enhance eco-friendliness. He stated that SCG is focused on minimizing carbon dioxide emissions to meet the evolving demands of the construction industry in ASEAN and global markets.
Innovations in Low-Carbon Cement
SCG presented its cutting-edge LC3 low-carbon cement prototype during the exhibition and hosted a site visit to its Ta Luang Cement Plant in Saraburi Province for global delegates. Highlights of the showcase included:
SCG LC3 Structural Cement: This next-generation low-carbon cement, made from limestone, calcined clay, and specialized additives, can reduce CO2 emissions by 30–40%. Its production process utilizes up to 40% biomass alternative fuels, such as rice husks and straw, along with over 35% renewable energy. The environmental performance of this product has been independently verified through an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), ensuring that it maintains structural integrity and performance.
Rondo Heat Battery: SCG has implemented ASEAN’s first Rondo Heat Battery at the Ta Luang Cement Plant. Developed in partnership with Rondo Energy, this thermal energy storage solution converts intermittent renewable power into high-temperature thermal energy, storing it at temperatures up to 1,500°C. The system boasts an energy recovery efficiency of up to 97% and a lifespan exceeding 40 years, providing continuous clean heat to support the decarbonization of industrial manufacturing processes.
Advanced Refractory Solutions
The Siam Refractory Industry Co., Ltd. (SRIC), a leading global provider of refractory solutions, also participated in the event, showcasing innovative technologies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability. Key offerings included:
Anti-Hydration Brick: This groundbreaking product extends shelf life from 6 to 24 months, minimizing material degradation and reducing production downtime, thereby improving overall operational efficiency.
Thermal Media for Heat Battery: Co-developed with Rondo Energy, these high-performance heat storage blocks achieve up to 97% thermal efficiency, ensuring reliable energy availability around the clock and facilitating the transition to cleaner industrial energy solutions.
Additionally, a Solar Floating installation at the Ta Luang Cement Plant generates 16.6 million kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 8,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year. This innovative system repurposes the plant’s industrial reservoirs, optimizing resource efficiency and demonstrating SCG’s commitment to integrating green energy into heavy industry.
A Catalyst for Industry Collaboration
As a co-host of Cemtech ASIA 2026, SCG reinforced its position as a trusted leader in the global cement industry. The event served as a vital platform for expanding business networks and facilitating high-level exchanges of technology and knowledge among industry leaders. Moving forward, SCG aims to foster global alliances to advance Thailand’s cement industry along a Net Zero pathway, solidifying its leadership role in ASEAN.
