Dubai Strengthens Flexible Work Environments with 2026 Launch of ‘Our Flexible Summer’ Initiative
Dubai’s government entities have commenced the implementation of the 2026 edition of ‘Our Flexible Summer,’ an initiative introduced by the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR). This program aims to create more flexible and human-centered work environments, enhancing the quality of life for government employees. The initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision of establishing future-ready workplaces that prioritize people and recognize quality of life as essential for productivity, innovation, and sustainable institutional performance.
Evolution of Government Work Environments
‘Our Flexible Summer’ was designed to address the changing needs of government employees during the summer months, emphasizing the importance of balancing professional responsibilities with family commitments. By analyzing employee feedback, DGHR has developed a flexible working model that supports employees and their families while ensuring business continuity and maintaining high standards of government service delivery.
This initiative underscores DGHR’s commitment to transforming employee insights into actionable policies and programs that enhance workplace experiences and contribute to the ongoing evolution of government work environments.
Balance in Quality of Life and Performance
The ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative illustrates that employee well-being and quality of life can coexist with operational efficiency and service excellence. It reflects a broader strategy to create flexible work models that address the needs of employees and families while aiding government entities in achieving their institutional objectives.
Additionally, the initiative allows employees to spend more quality time with their families during the summer, thereby strengthening family bonds and promoting overall well-being and social cohesion. This effort aligns with Dubai’s broader objectives to enhance quality of life and foster a more connected and resilient society.
People at the Heart of Development
His Excellency Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, emphasized that the ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative demonstrates that prioritizing employee well-being does not compromise performance. He noted that such initiatives are crucial for institutional success and long-term sustainability.
He further stated that the initiative reflects Dubai’s government model, which places people at the center of development. Investing in talent and quality of life is fundamental to enhancing productivity, innovation, and sustainable performance. This initiative also reinforces the commitment to creating attractive, flexible, and future-ready workplaces that bolster Dubai’s competitiveness and solidify its status as a premier destination for living and working.
The initiative is aligned with the Dubai Government’s goals to improve workplace quality of life and promote a healthy balance between professional, family, and social commitments, in line with the objectives of the ‘Year of Family.’ It also supports sustainable institutional performance and the ongoing delivery of high-quality government services.
Flexible Working Models
Running from June 29 to September 10, 2026, ‘Our Flexible Summer’ introduces two flexible working models that allow government entities to balance employee needs with operational requirements while maintaining business continuity and service excellence.
In the first model, employees will work seven hours per day from Monday to Thursday and four and a half hours on Friday. The second model allows employees to work eight hours per day from Monday to Thursday, with Friday designated as a day off. Government entities may also implement approved flexible working hours and remote working arrangements based on their operational needs and the nature of their work.
Commitment to Future-Ready Workplaces
The ongoing implementation of ‘Our Flexible Summer’ reflects DGHR’s dedication to developing innovative policies and programs that respond to employee needs and enhance quality of life while supporting future-ready government workplaces.
This initiative is part of a broader portfolio of policies and programs led by DGHR to improve the government employee experience and prepare government work environments for future challenges and opportunities. Through these efforts, DGHR continues to support Dubai’s ambition to build a more agile, resilient, and future-ready government, reinforcing the emirate’s position as a global model for human-centered governance.
