Saudi Aramco acquires 49% stake in HUMAIN for $2.6 billion to enhance AI capabilities

Published:

Saudi Aramco has acquired a 49% stake in HUMAIN for $2.6 billion, a move aimed at enhancing the artificial intelligence capabilities of the Saudi energy giant. This transaction, completed in collaboration with the Public Investment Fund (PIF), is expected to bolster HUMAIN’s infrastructure and support its ambitious goal of deploying 3 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030.

The deal, which involves approximately SAR 9.9 billion in cash contributions from Aramco to HUMAIN over the next few years, marks a significant step in integrating AI assets within Saudi Arabia’s national framework. PIF retains a majority stake of 51% in HUMAIN, ensuring that the fund continues to play a pivotal role in the company’s strategic direction.

Strengthening AI Infrastructure

The acquisition is part of a broader strategy to consolidate AI resources and capabilities under HUMAIN, which was launched by PIF in May 2025. The partnership aims to create a more integrated AI ecosystem by combining capital, technology, and expertise. Yazeed A. Al-Humied, Deputy Governor and Head of MENA Investments at PIF, emphasized that this collaboration will foster synergies in talent development and technological advancement.

HUMAIN’s operational focus includes next-generation data centers, high-performance computing, and advanced AI applications. The company aims to support various sectors, including energy, healthcare, and financial services, by providing the necessary infrastructure to deploy AI solutions at scale.

Commercializing AI Technology

For Aramco, this investment opens new avenues for monetizing technology developed within its operations. The company plans to leverage HUMAIN’s infrastructure to enhance its industrial applications of AI, potentially leading to significant revenue growth. Aramco President and CEO Amin H. Nasser noted that the partnership aligns with the company’s ongoing investment in technology and digital tools across its operations.

Since 2023, Aramco has reported generating $11.3 billion in what it terms Technology Realized Value, with AI solutions contributing significantly to this figure. The collaboration with PIF is expected to further strengthen Aramco’s position in the AI landscape, supporting the localization of the AI industry in Saudi Arabia.

Future Prospects and Global Ambitions

The completion of this transaction reflects a strategic shift in Saudi Arabia’s approach to AI, moving from isolated projects to a comprehensive platform that integrates infrastructure, models, and applications. PIF has identified AI and the digital economy as key areas for economic diversification and capacity building, aiming to develop globally competitive companies.

With the new ownership structure in place, HUMAIN is poised to serve both government and private-sector clients, providing the tools and infrastructure necessary for large-scale AI deployment. This partnership not only enhances HUMAIN’s capabilities but also positions Saudi Arabia as a significant player in the global AI industry.

As the demand for computing power continues to rise, the establishment of a robust AI infrastructure will be crucial for meeting both regional and global needs. The collaboration between Aramco and PIF is set to accelerate the development of AI technologies, paving the way for future innovations and economic growth.

According to Economy Middle East, this strategic investment is a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia’s AI journey, reflecting the country’s commitment to becoming a leader in the digital economy.
