Edamah and Retal partner to develop 700-unit mixed-use project in Bilaj Al Jazayer

Bahrain Real Estate Investment (Edamah) has partnered with Saudi Arabia’s Retal Urban Development to launch a significant mixed-use project in Bilaj Al Jazayer, featuring over 700 residential and retail units. This collaboration marks Retal’s entry into the Bahraini real estate market and aims to enhance the region’s tourism and hospitality sectors.

Announced during the fourth edition of Gateway Gulf, the co-investment and development framework outlines how the two companies will jointly invest in, develop, and manage the project within the Bilaj Al Jazayer masterplan. This initiative is part of Edamah’s broader strategy to create Bahrain’s largest integrated beachfront destination, which combines public beaches, hospitality, leisure, and mixed-use residential offerings.

Strategic Development Goals

Bilaj Al Jazayer is positioned as a flagship project in Edamah’s portfolio, aligning with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030. The vision aims to foster a vibrant destination for both residents and visitors, thereby supporting the growth of the tourism and hospitality sectors. The collaboration with Retal is expected to bring regional investment and development expertise, enhancing Bilaj Al Jazayer’s appeal as a comprehensive destination for living, tourism, and leisure.

Khaled A. Rahman AlMajed, CEO of Edamah, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “This framework with Retal is an important step forward in the development of the Bilaj Al Jazayer masterplan.” He noted that collaborating with established regional developers will accelerate the project’s next phases and attract new investments, ultimately benefiting residents, visitors, and investors alike.

Regional Investment and Economic Ties

The partnership reflects the strengthening economic and investment ties between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It opens new avenues for cooperation among developers in both countries, which is crucial for economic diversification and job creation in sectors linked to real estate development. Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, CEO of Retal, described the framework as a strategic milestone for the company’s regional expansion and its inaugural investment in Bahrain.

He expressed optimism about the project, stating, “We look forward to bringing Retal’s experience in integrated developments to deliver a distinctive project within Bilaj Al Jazayer that meets market demand and modern urban living standards.” This sentiment underscores the potential for further collaboration between the two nations in the real estate sector.

The framework not only aims to enhance the local real estate market but also supports broader efforts to increase joint investments between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. This initiative is expected to strengthen Bahrain’s attractiveness as an investment destination, fostering a more robust private sector and regional developer involvement in major projects.

As the project progresses, it will be essential to monitor its impact on the local economy and the real estate landscape in Bahrain, particularly in terms of job creation and investment opportunities.
