100+ Indian Classical Dancers Took the Stage in Dubai for a Thematic Dance Production Celebrating the Timeless Power of Women
Dubai, UAE, 14th August 2025 – The dynamic metropolis of Dubai recently hosted an extraordinary celebration of Indian art and culture, marked by an impressive dance showcase entitled NARI SHAKTI (the Power of Women). This stunning event featured 15 enchanting performances involving over 100 talented artists. At the heart of the evening was the thematic Bharatanatyam production, AGNI KANYE, depicting the legendary life of Draupadi, curated masterfully by the innovative Guru Iswarya Bharadwaj, Founder of NANDA Performing Arts Centre and the Gulf Indian Performing Arts & Music Society (GIPAMS). The performance resonated deeply with an audience of over 1,500, emotionally moving many to tears.
This unique show was not only a vibrant display of talent but was also entirely conceptualized, planned, and executed by women. The majority of the props and costumes were self-made, and the event received generous support from various organizations, including the Indian People’s Forum (IPF), Trescon, SkyBlue Media, Precision Metals, and many more. These collaborations highlighted the strength of community ties and solidarity among supporters of the arts.
AGNI KANYE: A Thematic Triumph of Good Over Evil
The centerpiece of the event, AGNI KANYE, was a breathtaking Bharatanatyam dance production that captured the essence of Draupadi’s story from the Mahabharata, a significant work in Indian literature. This portrayal of the struggles and triumphs of an iconic female figure in Hindu mythology transcended age; dancers ranged from as young as five to seasoned performers in their fifties. This powerful intergenerational collaboration showcased not only the grace and vibrancy of Indian dance but also the potential of the arts to foster connections across different stages of life.
Inclusivity was a core theme of NARI SHAKTI, featuring performances from individuals with disabilities and honoring impactful women in the community, such as Karthika Vaidyanathan (Carnatic singer and Filmfare awardee), Puja Unni (classical dancer), and Renuka Parameshwar (Carnatic teacher). These women were celebrated for embodying the spirit of feminine power akin to Draupadi, demonstrating their significant positive impact on society.
UAE: A Global Beacon for Arts, A Stage for Dreams and Diversity
The event highlighted the UAE’s vital role as a global hub for artistic expression and cultural exchange. NARI SHAKTI was more than just a talent showcase; it was a vibrant reminder of the UAE’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and tolerant society. This stage allowed creativity to blossom without boundaries related to age, nationality, or background, reinforcing the spirit of coexistence and cultural appreciation.
Iswarya Bharadwaj’s personal journey also stands as a testament to this ethos. From a humble upbringing in a thinking Indian household in the UAE, she has achieved remarkable milestones, including over 50 awards and performances on more than 500 global stages, from the UK Parliament to Expo 2020 Dubai. Her ascension has been augmented by resilience, strong family support, and the visionary guidance of the UAE’s leadership.
Looking Ahead: Empowering Through the Arts
Iswarya Bharadwaj articulates her broader mission, stating, “My aspirations extend beyond performance; I aim to initiate arts-powered corporate wellness programs and utilize the arts as a medium for personal development. I also intend to mentor aspiring artists, all while performing as a tribute to the inclusive and tolerant spirit of the Rulers of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.”
