GCC Warns Iranian Strike Threatens Regional Stability in 2023

In a robust response to recent tensions, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has condemned an attack attributed to Iran targeting the Port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). His Excellency Mr. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary General of the GCC, characterized the assault as a severe breach of the sovereignty of a member state, elevating concerns over regional security.

Escalation of Aggression

The GCC expressed its utmost denunciation of the Iranian strike, which Mr. Albudaiwi described as an alarming escalation that endangers the stability of the entire region. He emphasized that such aggression not only contravenes principles of sovereign rights but also poses significant threats to maritime navigation and international trade.

“Targeting vital facilities and infrastructure is unacceptable and condemned by all standards,” he stated. Mr. Albudaiwi’s remarks underscored that this escalation blatantly disregards international law and good neighborly conduct, which are essential for maintaining security among GCC member states.

Impact on Global Stability

The Secretary General further articulated that the Iranian attack undermines both regional and global energy markets. He underscored the direct implications of such actions on the safety of maritime routes and the overall security of international supply chains, which are vital for economies worldwide.

In light of the escalating violence, Mr. Albudaiwi called upon the international community to take decisive actions against Iran’s recurrent aggressive behavior. He urged global powers to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring the cessation of actions that threaten international peace and security.

Solidarity with the UAE

Reaffirming the GCC’s unwavering support, Mr. Albudaiwi stated that the Council stands in full solidarity with the UAE. He noted that the GCC will back the UAE in all necessary measures aimed at safeguarding its sovereignty and protecting critical infrastructure. “We stand as one ranks with the UAE,” he asserted, highlighting the unity among member states in the face of threats.

In conclusion, the GCC’s strong denunciation of the Iranian strike reflects broader concerns about the stability of the region and the implications for international trade and energy security. As tensions continue to rise, the Council calls for a cooperative approach to avert further escalations.
