Ben Sulayem Celebrates Re-Election: A Strong Commitment to French Partnership

Official Congratulations from the French President

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), has received heartfelt congratulations on his re-election from French President Emmanuel Macron. This significant acknowledgment underscores the enduring relationship between France and the FIA, promising continued collaboration in the world of motorsport and beyond.

In a personal letter addressed to Ben Sulayem, Macron expressed his warmest regards following the vote held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on December 12. The French President noted, “In this regard, and further to our recent meeting at the Élysée Palace alongside other representatives of the automotive world, please be assured of my determination to continue strengthening the historic partnership between France and the FIA.”

Strengthening the FIA and France’s Historic Connection

The rapport between France and the FIA is deeply rooted, reinforced by various joint initiatives. Macron’s letter emphasized the importance of this partnership, highlighting the value both parties place on shared goals in motorsport, road safety, mobility, and the safeguarding of youth online. During a meeting at the Élysée Palace in November, these shared priorities were a focal point of discussion.

Located in Paris, the FIA recognizes France’s vital role in its history and operations. The meeting also reiterated the FIA’s commitment to France as one of its key centers of excellence within the automotive sector.

Celebrating France’s Role in Global Motorsport

During the conversations, both leaders acknowledged France’s pivotal impact on the international motorsport landscape, tracing its legacy from the historic Paris–Rouen trial of 1894 to contemporary events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This iconic race continues to draw throngs of spectators, generating significant economic benefits, including the creation of over 1,000 full-time jobs and boosting the French economy by more than €162 million.

Furthermore, the discussion also encompassed France’s representation in the FIA Formula 1 Championship and the success of French talent competing in major FIA World Championships. The contributions of French manufacturers and promoters in shaping motorsport on a global scale were also notably recognized.

Collaborative Efforts in Road Safety and Mobility

Accompanying Macron and Ben Sulayem were prominent figures such as Yann de Pontbriand, President of the Automobile Club de France (ACF), and Pierre Gosselin, President of the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA). Their participation highlighted the collaborative efforts of various clubs alongside the FIA in promoting safe and responsible mobility.

During their discussions, the focus was further directed toward road safety and the push for sustainable mobility options. Both leaders exchanged ideas about innovative initiatives aimed at enhancing safety and affordability in transportation. One notable initiative was the newly launched FIA Driver Safety Index, a groundbreaking global benchmark designed to measure and compare driver risk, utilizing advanced AI technology.

Advocating for Youth Protection Online

The conversation also touched on important topics such as the protection of young athletes and the promotion of respectful interactions in digital spaces. The FIA’s United Against Online Abuse (UAOA) campaign aligns closely with France’s initiatives focused on social media safety for children, demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding youth in both motorsport and online environments.

Through these discussions, it is apparent that the FIA and France are poised to continue their fruitful partnership. Together, they aim to advance key initiatives that not only elevate the standards of motorsport but also address broader societal issues, ensuring a safe and sustainable future for all.
