Atlantis Dubai Raises Nearly AED 2 Million for Conservation Efforts

Date:

Atlantis Dubai has made impressive strides in marine conservation, raising nearly AED 2 million (approximately US$500,000) through green meetings and unique marine animal experiences offered to its guests. This substantial funding supports a variety of projects dedicated to preserving ocean life and the environment.

Central to these efforts is the Atlantis Atlas Project Contribution Programme, which between June 2024 and May 2025 alone raised US$123,000 (AED 452,000). Since its launch in 2021, the programme has amassed a total of US$509,000 (AED 1.87 million), a testament to the resort’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and marine conservation.

Over the years, Atlantis Dubai has backed 30 conservation projects aimed at protecting the ocean and its diverse ecosystems. Of these, seven projects have been selected for support this year. Six of these are returning partners from previous years, while one is a new addition to the circle of collaborators.

The new partner, the Mohammed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund, plays a vital role in encouraging UAE youth towards conservation efforts. It does so by providing funding, mentorship, and hands-on experiences, empowering the next generation of environmental advocates.

The Atlantis Atlas Project is primarily focused on four key wildlife groups: sharks, rays, dolphins, and coral reefs. These species are particularly threatened by marine pollution, making their protection a priority within the programme’s mission.

Among the returning partners are reputable organizations such as Zayed University, Goumbook, the IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group, SAFE Shark and Ray, the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF), and the Marine Megafauna Foundation. These partnerships bring a wealth of expertise and ongoing dedication to the conservation landscape fostered by Atlantis Dubai.

Kelly Timmins, Executive Director of Marine Animal Operations and Sustainability at Atlantis Dubai, expressed pride in the initiative’s achievements. She highlighted that since the inception of the Atlantis Atlas Project, over half a million dollars have been raised, supporting 30 impactful conservation initiatives. Timmins emphasized that the selected projects for this year exhibit remarkable expertise, creativity, and innovation in advancing ocean conservation and environmental protection.

The initiatives supported by Atlantis Dubai not only work to protect marine life but also align with the resort’s broader sustainability goals. Timmins underlined that driving conservation both within and beyond the resort itself is fundamental to the long-term vision of the Atlantis Atlas Project. This integrated approach underscores the resort’s dedication to creating measurable, positive change for the planet and its inhabitants.

Earlier this year, Timmins also shared insights with Connecting Travel on how the wider travel trade industry could benefit from Atlantis Dubai’s award-winning approach to sustainability and conservation, highlighting the potential for these efforts to inspire broader environmental responsibility in hospitality.
