New Committee Formed to Enhance Dubai’s Media Messaging

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, has announced the establishment of the Dubai Media Narrative Committee through Council Decision No. (16) of 2026. This initiative aims to unify and enhance the emirate’s strategic communications.

Chaired by Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, the committee is tasked with defining the strategic priorities and core pillars of Dubai’s media narrative. This narrative will encompass both public and private sector entities, ensuring a cohesive message across various sectors.

Objectives of the Committee

The primary objective of the committee is to strengthen the consistency and effectiveness of Dubai’s key messages. By doing so, it aims to reinforce the emirate’s position as a leading model for future cities globally. Sheikh Ahmed emphasized that this initiative builds on a vision that has evolved over decades under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

A strong media narrative is now recognized as a vital component of Dubai’s development strategy. It shapes the reach and impact of the emirate’s messages both locally and internationally. Sheikh Ahmed stated that the formation of this specialized committee represents a strategic move toward creating an integrated framework that ensures message consistency and enhances overall impact.

Committee Composition and Responsibilities

The committee includes notable figures such as Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, serving as Vice Chairperson; Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers; Younus Al Nasser, CEO of the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment at Digital Dubai; and Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation. Other members include Issam Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing; Arif Amiri, CEO of the DIFC Authority; Sabah Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Secretary General of The Executive Council of Dubai; and Abdulla Humaid Belhoul.

Mona Al Marri highlighted the importance of a coordinated media narrative in light of the significant transformations occurring globally. She noted that a robust media narrative serves as a critical driver of strategic influence, essential for building awareness and shaping perceptions.

Strategic Importance of a Unified Media Narrative

Developing a cohesive media narrative has become a priority for cities aiming to strengthen their global standing. Al Marri pointed out that those who can effectively communicate their stories are better positioned to build trust and enhance their influence. The committee’s work will focus on fostering collaboration among government entities, semi-government organizations, and the private sector to ensure a coherent media narrative for Dubai.

The committee will also address misinformation and false news through transparent communication strategies. Its responsibilities will include proposing policies and plans related to Dubai’s media narrative, coordinating messaging across relevant entities, and guiding official engagement on international media platforms.

Future Directions and Support Mechanisms

The committee is tasked with preparing analytical reports to support decision-making, assess opportunities and challenges, and monitor local and global media trends. It will submit recommendations to the Dubai Media Council based on its findings. The General Secretariat of the Dubai Media Council will provide the necessary administrative and technical support for the committee’s operations.

Government entities and relevant organizations in Dubai are expected to cooperate by providing essential information, data, and studies to support the committee’s mandate.
