Sharjah Chamber Strengthens Economic Ties with Uganda and Jordan Through Strategic Meetings

Sharjah: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing economic and trade relations with the Republic of Uganda. This initiative underscores SCCI’s commitment to fostering robust bilateral business ties and advancing investment partnerships across key sectors.

The discussions were held at the Sharjah Chamber’s headquarters, featuring H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and H.E. Zaake Wanume Kibedi, Uganda’s Ambassador to the UAE. The meeting was also attended by H.E. Mohammad Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI; and Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department at SCCI.

Strengthening Bilateral Economic Cooperation

During the meeting, both parties reviewed the ongoing expansion of economic cooperation between Sharjah and Uganda. This collaboration has seen significant progress in recent years, driven by joint initiatives that have led to strategic investment partnerships across various sectors. The discussions emphasized the need to intensify collaborative efforts to launch innovative initiatives that will deepen bilateral economic ties, enhance connectivity between the two business communities, and facilitate investor access to emerging opportunities in both markets.

H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais expressed appreciation for the Ugandan Embassy’s efforts in supporting SCCI’s initiatives, highlighting the importance of strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two business communities. He noted that Sharjah provides a competitive investment environment for Ugandan companies seeking regional and international expansion, supported by its strategic geographic location, world-class infrastructure, and a business-friendly ecosystem.

Promising Investment Opportunities

Al Owais reaffirmed SCCI’s commitment to offering comprehensive support services and facilitation mechanisms for Ugandan investors, enabling them to utilize Sharjah as a gateway to regional markets. H.E. Zaake Wanume Kibedi outlined the preliminary program for Uganda’s upcoming trade mission to the UAE, scheduled for October 2026. This high-level delegation will consist of senior government officials, prominent business leaders, and representatives from leading Ugandan companies, all aimed at exploring new trade partnerships and expanding bilateral investment opportunities.

The Sharjah Chamber welcomed the planned visit, confirming its readiness to facilitate business matchmaking sessions and meetings with representatives of Sharjah’s business community to support mutually beneficial trade partnerships. The Ugandan delegation highlighted the impressive growth in bilateral trade between the UAE and Uganda, which surged from US$600 million in 2018 to US$4.7 billion, reflecting the depth of bilateral relations and the significant economic opportunities available to both nations.

Advancing UAE-Jordanian Private Sector Cooperation

In a separate meeting, H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais met with H.E. Omar El Atoum, Consul General of the Kingdom of Jordan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral economic relations and expanding trade and investment cooperation between the two sides.

During this meeting, the Jordanian Consul General was briefed on SCCI’s comprehensive portfolio of business support services. The briefing highlighted SCCI’s innovative programs and initiatives designed to enhance the business environment, streamline procedures, and foster innovation and competitiveness.

Both parties underscored the importance of maintaining continuous communication and close institutional coordination between the Sharjah Chamber and the Jordanian Consulate. This collaboration aims to strengthen private-sector engagement in both countries and support their contributions to shared economic growth. They also explored opportunities to jointly organize business forums and investment events to showcase Jordan’s investment potential to Sharjah’s business community, alongside facilitating B2B meetings between companies and economic institutions operating in sectors of mutual competitive advantage.

These initiatives are anticipated to foster new commercial partnerships, generate successful business deals, and further expand trade between Sharjah and Jordan.
