Sheikh Hamdan Approves Dubai as Host for 50th International Collegiate Programming Contest, Strengthening Global Digital Talent Hub
Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, has approved Dubai’s hosting of the 50th edition of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals. This prestigious event, set to take place from November 16 to 20, 2026, is recognized as one of the largest programming competitions globally, drawing top student talent from around the world.
Strategic Meeting on Future Technology
During a recent meeting of the Higher Committee for Future Technology Development and the Digital Economy, Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on various projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing Dubai’s technological landscape. A significant focus was placed on an executive plan to accelerate the adoption of agentic artificial intelligence (Agentic AI) within the private sector, aimed at bolstering business readiness and competitiveness.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that Dubai is undergoing a transformative phase in its development journey, with artificial intelligence playing a crucial role in creating economic opportunities and enhancing business competitiveness. He stated that the emirate aims to become a leading hub for advanced AI solutions, with the private sector at the forefront of this transformation.
Advancements in Artificial Intelligence
The discussion highlighted the need for a shift from traditional AI tools to more advanced systems capable of executing tasks, making decisions, and managing operations efficiently. Sheikh Hamdan noted that the opportunities presented by Agentic AI extend beyond mere technology; they are reshaping business models and accelerating innovation across various sectors.
To build a robust global AI ecosystem, Sheikh Hamdan stressed the importance of attracting top talent, companies, and high-value investments. He assured that Dubai would continue to expand international partnerships and strengthen its regulatory framework to facilitate the swift adoption of technological advancements, turning them into sustainable economic value.
Empowering Businesses and Talent
The executive plan for the Agentic AI transformation program aims to empower 295,000 companies in Dubai and develop 100 specialized AI assistants over the next two years. Additionally, the initiative seeks to support the establishment of 50 Agentic AI companies, further solidifying Dubai’s position as a global hub for digital talent and advanced technologies.
The ICPC World Finals, featuring 140 teams from over 70 countries, is expected to enhance Dubai’s reputation as a center for knowledge-based economies. This event will not only showcase programming talent but also reinforce the emirate’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological advancement.
Initiatives to Enhance Digital Economy
Sheikh Hamdan also approved several strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering Dubai’s digital economy and attracting global talent. One such initiative is the “Dubai Global Talent Network” platform, designed to connect global talent with experience in Dubai, facilitating networking and leveraging expertise for future projects across various sectors.
Another significant project is the “Digital Twin System” for Dubai Police, which aims to enhance smart surveillance through advanced digital technologies. This initiative includes a pilot phase covering 150 cameras across Dubai, creating an integrated digital model to support decision-making and real-time data analysis.
Progress on Key Digital Projects
The meeting reviewed key achievements of the committee, including the SME digital trade support initiative in partnership with Amazon, which has seen significant growth, reaching over 105,000 companies by May 2026. This initiative has exceeded its target of 100,000 companies for the year.
Progress was also noted on the “Ignyte” platform, which serves over 36,000 users by providing integrated services for entrepreneurs and startups, including more than 3,000 specialized mentoring sessions. The Dubai AI Campus, which hosts over 400 specialized companies, has trained more than 1,500 participants through its AI Academy.
Strengthening the AI Ecosystem
The meeting also addressed updates from the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence, which supports government entities in developing and adopting AI applications. This initiative has delivered over 108,000 hours of work support, demonstrating its impact on operational efficiency.
Sheikh Hamdan was informed about the “Dubai Founders HQ,” which has attracted over 1,100 members and 500 startups within nine months of its launch. Companies under this initiative have raised over AED 200 million in funding, reflecting the growing strength of Dubai’s entrepreneurship and digital economy ecosystem.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including His Excellency Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence; His Excellency Helal Saeed AlMarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism; and His Excellency Abdullah Khalifa AlMarri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, among others.
