WETEX 2025: A Showcase of Innovation in Sustainability

Introduction to WETEX 2025

The Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) is set to take place from September 30 to October 2, 2025. This year, the event will feature over 3,100 companies from 65 different countries, highlighting Dubai’s growing role as a global hub for sustainability and innovation.

Inauguration by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum

On Tuesday, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, officially inaugurated the 27th edition of WETEX, organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). During the opening ceremony, Sheikh Ahmed emphasized Dubai’s commitment to becoming a leader in the transition to a green economy, a vision guided by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Ahmed remarked, “Dubai has become a strategic hub for hosting major international events, particularly in sustainability and innovation. This enhances public-private partnerships and attracts investments.”

A Platform for Innovative Solutions

WETEX has evolved into a pivotal event that showcases cutting-edge solutions in energy, water, and environmental technology. Sheikh Ahmed noted that the exhibition supports the UAE’s ambitious goals under the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative, aligning with both the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

Exploring International Pavilions

During his tour of WETEX, Sheikh Ahmed explored various international pavilions, including those from China, Russia, Germany, France, and South Korea. He was briefed on the latest advancements in clean and renewable energy, water sustainability, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital transformation tools. The exhibition serves as a platform for companies to present their innovations, fostering collaboration and investment opportunities.

DEWA’s Cutting-Edge Technologies

At DEWA’s stand, Sheikh Ahmed received insights from His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA and founder of WETEX. The stand featured several ambitious projects, including the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the world’s largest single-site solar facility with a total production capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW).

Another significant project on display was the Hatta Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant, the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf. With a production capacity of 250 megawatts and a storage capacity of 1,500 megawatt-hours, this project represents a significant investment of approximately AED 1.42 billion. The plant has already begun trial operations, marking a new chapter in Dubai’s energy landscape.

The Future of Smart Buildings

WETEX also showcased Al Shera’a, DEWA’s new headquarters, which aims to be the tallest, largest, and smartest net-positive energy government building globally. Designed to achieve LEED platinum certification and WELL Building Standard silver certification, Al Shera’a will utilize advanced technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data analytics, to ensure exceptional energy efficiency.

DEWA’s Global Leadership in Performance

DEWA has garnered recognition for its outstanding performance, ranking first globally in 12 key performance indicators. In 2024, the organization recorded the lowest electricity transmission and distribution network losses in the world at just 2 percent, significantly lower than the 6-7 percent average in Europe and the U.S. Additionally, DEWA set a world record for the lowest customer minutes lost, achieving only 0.94 minutes per year compared to an average of 15 minutes in the European Union.

A Hub for Collaboration and Investment

Al Tayer highlighted that WETEX serves as a leading platform for innovation, cooperation, and investment. It allows local and international companies to showcase their latest technologies in renewable energy, water, and sustainability. The event facilitates the establishment of strategic partnerships and the exchange of expertise among industry specialists, experts, and decision-makers.

WETEX 2025 promises to be a significant event in the global sustainability landscape, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship.
