Dubai event to showcase next-generation airport innovations amid growing investment in seamless passenger experiences
Airport Show 2026 in Dubai to Showcase Biometric Innovations as Passenger Traffic Surges to 240 Million
Dubai is set to host the 25th edition of Airport Show 2026 at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 12 to 14 October. This event will highlight cutting-edge biometric technologies and innovations aimed at enhancing passenger experiences, as regional airports accelerate their digital transformation efforts.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) and Chairman of Dubai Airports, the exhibition is anticipated to attract over 150 exhibitors from more than 30 countries. It will also welcome 120 hosted buyers and over 7,000 visitors globally.
The event will feature a variety of industry conferences, including the Global Airport Leaders’ Forum (GALF), Airport Security Middle East, Air Traffic Control (ATC) Forum, and the Women in Aviation (WIA) Middle East Conference.
Airport Show 2026 aims to connect aviation leaders, airport operators, and technology providers to explore the latest innovations that are reshaping passenger journeys and airport operations across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The event will also provide suppliers with opportunities to engage directly with decision-makers involved in significant airport expansion and modernization projects.
Biometric Technology Takes Centre Stage
The Middle East, home to some of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, is increasingly investing in biometric technologies to facilitate seamless passenger experiences. Passenger traffic in the region is projected to reach 240 million travelers by 2026, which is driving the demand for faster and more efficient airport processes.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports that replacing manual checks with biometric identity verification can reduce passenger processing times by up to 40%. This shift is expected to enhance operational efficiency while minimizing queues and wait times.
UAE Airports Lead Innovation
Dubai International Airport, recognized as the world’s busiest airport for international passengers, has introduced its AI-powered “Red Carpet” smart tunnel, capable of processing over 10 travelers simultaneously.
Meanwhile, the first phase of Al Maktoum International Airport is under development, with operations scheduled to commence in 2032. This next-generation airport will feature a highly integrated, AI-driven ecosystem focused on personalized services and improved passenger-flow management.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, emphasized the commitment to delivering measurable improvements in passenger movement through terminals. He noted that continued investment in biometric and digital solutions is essential for enhancing operational efficiency while managing sustained growth.
In Abu Dhabi, Zayed International Airport has already implemented facial-recognition biometric solutions at five stages of the passenger journey.
Regional Push Towards Seamless Travel
The UAE is at the forefront of biometric technology adoption. Emirates was among the first airlines worldwide to implement biometrics in 2017, investing AED85 million to deploy over 200 biometric boarding cameras at Dubai International Airport. Registered passengers can complete check-in, immigration, lounge access, and boarding using facial recognition.
Etihad Airways is currently testing AI-powered facial identity verification for boarding and lounge access, while flydubai is integrating biometric features into check-in systems and self-service kiosks.
Three UAE airports are also connected to a smartphone application that allows eligible travelers to complete immigration procedures before departure through a one-time registration process.
Rapid Market Growth
Organizers have noted that the global biometric technology market is projected to reach US$150.58 billion by 2030, with the airport biometrics services market expected to grow to US$276.56 billion by 2032.
According to travel technology company SITA, over 43% of airports worldwide are already utilizing biometric-enabled boarding systems, and more than half anticipate deploying integrated digital identity management solutions within the next three years. By 2027, approximately 75% of airports are expected to implement biometrics across key touchpoints, including check-in, baggage drop, boarding, and border control.
May Ismail, Event Manager at RX Middle East, stated that biometric technology is revolutionizing airport operations by enhancing security, improving passenger convenience, and enabling airports to manage increasing traveler volumes more efficiently.
She added that airports throughout the Middle East increasingly view biometrics as a strategic opportunity to provide a faster, more secure, and fully touchless travel experience.
