Khorfakkan Mango Festival 2026 Opens with 40% Increase in Participation at Expo Khorfakkan

Sharjah: The fifth edition of the Khorfakkan Mango Festival commenced on Friday in Khorfakkan, showcasing a remarkable 40% increase in participation compared to the previous year. The festival, organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in collaboration with the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan, Khorfakkan City Municipality, and Expo Khorfakkan, will continue until Sunday evening, under the theme “Mango: Our Fruit, Our Wealth.”

Expanded Participation and Infrastructure

This year’s festival features the participation of 55 farmers, alongside leading agricultural and fertilization companies, as well as productive families from across the UAE. Notably, delegations from Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Uganda have also joined, indicating the festival’s growing regional and international appeal. To accommodate the increased participation, the festival has expanded its exhibition space by 70%, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

The official inauguration was conducted by H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was joined by H.E. Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment; H.E. Salem Ali Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah City Municipal Council; and H.E. Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Murr Alnaqbi, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Khorfakkan, among other dignitaries.

Showcasing Local Agricultural Excellence

Following the opening ceremony, attendees explored over 150 varieties of premium locally grown mangoes, citrus fruits, and seasonal produce from the Eastern Region. They were briefed on innovative mango-based processing industries and value-added products, highlighting the commitment of Emirati farmers to sustainable agricultural practices. The productive families pavilion, a key attraction, featured a diverse array of locally produced food items, traditional cuisine, and handcrafted goods.

H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais recognized the festival’s sponsors and supporting entities during a ceremony, emphasizing their vital role in the festival’s success and continuous improvement.

Economic Significance and Future Vision

In his remarks, H.E. Abdallah Sultan Al Owais underscored the festival’s significance as an economic and cultural platform, aligning with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He noted that promoting investment in agriculture is essential for the UAE’s national food security strategy.

The Sharjah Chamber views the agricultural sector as a strategic contributor to GDP growth and economic diversification. Al Owais reiterated the importance of equipping local farmers with advanced marketing capabilities and modern agricultural technologies to enhance the competitiveness of local products.

A Premier Agricultural Exhibition

H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi highlighted the festival’s growth, noting that the previous edition attracted approximately 35,000 visitors. This year, the increase in participating farmers and the expansion of exhibition space further solidify the festival’s status as a premier agricultural exhibition in the UAE.

The Khorfakkan Mango Festival serves as an integrated marketing platform, enabling farmers to establish direct sales channels with consumers. This year’s edition includes participants from Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, and Uganda, alongside farmers from all UAE emirates.

Competitions and Cultural Activities

The festival features five main competitions designed to promote excellence in local agricultural production, with cash prizes awarded to winners. The “Mango Mazayna” (Most Beautiful Mango) Competition kicked off the program, requiring participants to present a minimum of 6 kilograms of locally grown mangoes that meet strict quality standards.

Other competitions include the Largest Mango Competition and the Best Mango Basket Competition for families, emphasizing craftsmanship and simplicity. The Mango Beauty Competition is open to children aged 7 to 15, while the Best Innovative Idea or Mango-Based Project Competition encourages innovation in the food processing industry.

The festival also includes a variety of cultural performances, heritage activities, educational workshops, and family-oriented entertainment, ensuring an engaging experience for visitors of all ages.
