The UAE’s space sector is projected to reach AED 5.52 billion by 2025, marking a significant 27.1% increase from previous estimates, according to the 2025 Space Economic Survey presented by Engineer Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency. This growth underscores the UAE’s ambition to solidify its status as a global hub for the space economy.

During a workshop organized by the UAE Space Agency in collaboration with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, Al Qubaisi highlighted that the commercial sector now constitutes 48% of total space spending, amounting to AED 2.64 billion. This shift indicates a growing involvement of private companies in the national space ecosystem, enhancing its competitiveness.

Emiratisation and Workforce Growth

Al Qubaisi also reported a notable increase in Emiratisation within the sector, with the number of Emiratis employed rising by 27.9% to 1,495. Among these, 1,333 are young individuals aged between 15 and 35, reflecting successful national initiatives aimed at attracting and empowering youth in advanced space fields. Furthermore, Emirati women now represent 33.5% of the workforce, with their numbers increasing by 83.9%, showcasing the effectiveness of programs designed to enhance women’s participation in science, technology, and space.

Strategic Goals and Future Directions

Looking ahead, Al Qubaisi affirmed that the UAE space sector is on track to meet its 2031 objectives, aligning with the country’s strategic vision. The focus remains on fostering a competitive environment, boosting economic contributions, and attracting high-quality investments and partnerships. These efforts are pivotal in reinforcing the UAE’s leadership in the space industry both regionally and globally.

As the UAE continues to invest in its space capabilities, the implications for the broader technology and innovation landscape are significant, potentially positioning the nation as a leader in space exploration and technology development. According to Emirates247, this growth trajectory not only enhances the UAE’s global standing but also contributes to the diversification of its economy.

With these developments, the UAE is poised to play a crucial role in the future of the global space economy, leveraging its investments and talent to drive innovation and exploration.
