An Inspiring Journey: Khalid Al Zarooni, Dubai’s Youngest Licensed Real Estate Broker
At just 18 years old, Khalid Al Zarooni has emerged as one of the youngest licensed real estate brokers in Dubai, marking a significant achievement in a competitive industry. His journey, underscored by determination and familial inspiration, illustrates not only his ambition but also the supportive ecosystem fostering young Emiratis in the business world.
Following in His Father’s Footsteps
Khalid’s motivation comes from his father, an accomplished real estate professional and business owner. "I followed in my father’s footsteps," he shared in an interview with The National. Growing up with direct exposure to the real estate sector, Khalid would often accompany his father to work, absorbing vital knowledge and tips that would later serve as the foundation for his career.
Balancing Education and Entrepreneurship
While many of his contemporaries are busy preparing for university life, Khalid has opted for a path that blends academia with professionalism. Even before obtaining his real estate license, he launched his own business, KBW Perfumery, at the young age of 16 while still attending Al Salam Community School in Dubai. This entrepreneurial spirit showcases his commitment to balancing both education and professional aspirations.
The Dubai Real Estate Broker Programme
In May of last year, Khalid enrolled in the Dubai Real Estate Broker Programme, an initiative aimed at enhancing local participation in the real estate sector. This national program is designed to allocate 10 to 15 percent of real estate units for sale to Emirati brokers. Remarkably, Khalid secured his license just days after completing the program, underscoring his dedication and the potential of this initiative to equip young Emiratis with the needed skills and certifications for a successful career in real estate.
Training for Success
Khalid credits his entry into the real estate world partly to the specialized training he received through the program. "My father told me about the programme and encouraged me to enrol," he explained. The training, conducted by industry experts, provided him with extensive insights into real estate operations. It was a free program that also offered valuable benefits—including the flexibility of working as a part-time broker.
Early Career Milestones
After obtaining his real estate license, Khalid joined the family business, W Capital Real Estate. His ventures quickly bore fruit; by May of this year, he had successfully closed two transactions involving Dubai apartments, one sold to an Emirati and another to an overseas investor. "I closed two deals for a one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments at the Rabdhan Gates projects in Dubai, with a total value of Dh2.3 million," he proudly stated.
Empowering the Emirati Youth
Khalid believes that Emirati youth possess immense potential when given the right opportunities. The Dubai Land Department, which oversees the broker program, has seen an influx of interest, with more than 180 percent of the annual target for qualified Emirati brokers already met. Real estate transactions worth over Dh500 million have been recorded since the program’s inception, showcasing its effectiveness in stimulating local participation.
Insights on Success in Real Estate
For aspiring brokers, Khalid emphasizes the importance of networking and staying informed about emerging off-plan projects. "A good real estate broker should have a lot of connections and be aware of new off-plan projects,” he advises. He stresses honesty and transparency with clients as essential virtues for success in the real estate arena. “The most important thing is to be honest with clients in this sector. I hope to be a well-known name in real estate brokerage in Dubai,” he expressed.
A Vision for the Future
As Khalid navigates his dual role as a student and a broker, he is committed to pursuing studies in business or property management. His dedication to balancing education with professional pursuits reaffirms a broader message—success can be achieved when one dedicates time and effort towards their passions. “I’m grateful for my family’s support,” he adds, showcasing the importance of a strong support system.
Khalid Al Zarooni’s story serves as a beacon of inspiration, highlighting the potential that Emirati youth can achieve in various sectors, provided they have the right support and opportunities. The real estate industry in Dubai, with initiatives like the Dubai Real Estate Broker Programme, is paving the way for a new generation of entrepreneurs ready to make their mark.
