Ras Al Khaimah ranks 11th globally for best sunset viewing, study finds

Published:

Ras Al Khaimah has been recognized as one of the premier locations globally for sunset viewing, securing the 11th position in a recent study conducted by travel company Kuoni. The emirate achieved a score of 86.96 out of 100, highlighting its appeal during the “golden hour” for both residents and visitors.

According to the study, which involved collaboration with Jim Dale, Founder and Senior Meteorologist at British Weather Services, the ranking evaluated 165 destinations based on six key factors: cloud cover, light pollution, artificial brightness, rainfall, wind speed, and the duration of sunsets. This comprehensive assessment underscores Ras Al Khaimah’s favorable conditions for sunset enthusiasts.

Global Rankings and Regional Highlights

Jordan’s Wadi Rum topped the list with an impressive score of 95.92, followed closely by Sossusvlei and Damaraland in Namibia. Oman’s Wahiba Sands emerged as the highest-ranked destination in the Gulf region, placing fifth overall. Namibia showcased its natural beauty with three locations in the top six, while Greece led Europe with four entries in the top 20.

In North America, California’s San Joaquin Valley was recognized as the best spot for sunset viewing, further emphasizing the global competition for this picturesque experience.

Implications for Tourism and Local Culture

This recognition not only enhances Ras Al Khaimah’s profile as a tourist destination but also reflects the emirate’s commitment to promoting its natural landscapes and outdoor experiences. The ranking may attract more visitors seeking to enjoy the stunning vistas during sunset, potentially boosting local businesses and tourism-related activities.

As the emirate continues to develop its tourism infrastructure, this accolade serves as a reminder of the unique natural beauty that Ras Al Khaimah offers, making it a must-visit location for sunset lovers.
