Amazon UAE Launches Packaging Recycling Initiative

A New Recycling Program in Dubai

Amazon UAE has rolled out an innovative packaging recycling program in collaboration with Enviroserve, establishing a network of 150 drop-off points throughout Dubai. This initiative allows customers to conveniently recycle packaging materials from their Amazon.ae orders, promoting a more sustainable future.

Supporting UAE’s Green Agenda 2030

As per a recent announcement from Amazon, this partnership is fully aligned with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030. The launch supports Amazon’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 under its Climate Pledge. This strategic move illustrates Amazon’s commitment to fostering environmentally-friendly practices.

What Can Be Recycled?

Customers can participate by recycling a variety of materials, including cardboard boxes, plastic mailers, bubble-lined wrappers, and packing paper. The designated drop-off points are conveniently located within both residential and commercial areas, making it easier for community members to dispose of their packaging responsibly.

How to Find Drop-Off Points

To identify the nearest recycling drop-off location, customers can simply scan the QR code found on their Amazon.ae packages. This code directs users to the Amazon Second Chance page, which not only provides guidance on packaging recycling but also offers information about electronic recycling and end-of-life product programs.

Enhancing Recycling Accessibility

Prashant Saran, Director of Operations for Amazon in the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, highlighted that this new program aims to simplify the recycling process for customers while simultaneously bolstering the sustainability goals set by the UAE. He noted, “By pioneering this service in the UAE, we are creating the necessary infrastructure for more responsible practices.”

Saran further emphasized the importance of partnering with Enviroserve to efficiently process recycled materials, which will help divert packaging waste from landfills and keep it in circulation.

Ongoing Waste Reduction Efforts

This recycling initiative is part of Amazon’s broader strategy to minimize packaging waste. The company employs machine learning models to optimize box sizing and has launched the “Ships in Product Packaging” program to reduce the need for additional delivery materials. These efforts demonstrate Amazon’s dedication to innovation in sustainability.

Collaboration with Enviroserve

YS Shashidhar, board member and managing director at Enviroserve, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Amazon. He stated, “Together, we are making recycling more accessible while supporting the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030. By ensuring that packaging materials are responsibly collected and processed, we help keep valuable resources circulating and prevent them from ending up in landfills.”

Looking Ahead

In a related effort to enhance its packaging efficiency, Amazon announced in May 2025 that it plans to install 18 automated packaging machines at its fulfillment centers in the UK. This move is expected to further bolster the company’s recycling and waste reduction initiatives.
