The Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA) has unveiled key recommendations from the ‘6th World Conference on Arbitration’ focused on Advance Dispute Resolution (ADR). Presented by QICCA Secretary General Ibrahim Shahbek during the conference’s closing session, these recommendations aim to enhance the synergy between judicial processes and arbitration, modernize arbitration legislation, and establish guidelines for the ethical use of artificial intelligence in arbitration.

Held in the presence of QICCA Vice Chairman Sheikh Dr. Thani bin Ali al-Thani and various global legal experts, the conference emphasized the need for arbitration centers to adopt modern technologies and promote mediation as a viable alternative for resolving disputes, particularly in investment contexts. The recommendations also stress maintaining high standards of integrity and ethics within the arbitration process.

Key Recommendations for Modernizing Arbitration

Among the notable recommendations, the conference called for:

  • Strengthening the relationship between the judiciary and arbitration.
  • Updating arbitration laws to reflect contemporary practices.
  • Encouraging the responsible integration of artificial intelligence while ensuring confidentiality and impartiality.
  • Enhancing training programs for young arbitrators and mediators.
  • Increasing women’s participation in arbitration.
  • Fostering collaboration among arbitration centers, judicial institutions, and academic bodies across the Gulf and Arab regions.

Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani, who also chairs QICCA, attended part of the closing sessions and engaged with participants, highlighting the importance of ongoing dialogue and expertise exchange in shaping the future of arbitration.

Memorandum of Understanding Signed

On the final day of the conference, QICCA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Mediation and Arbitration, furthering cooperation in dispute resolution efforts. Shahbek signed the MoU on behalf of QICCA, while Dr. Ibrahim Shawqi Jawhar represented the Ras Al Khaimah Centre. The signing ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Abdullah al-Qamzi, the UAE ambassador to Qatar.

The conference concluded with a commitment to continue research and professional dialogue, aiming to balance technological advancements with the principles of justice in arbitration practices. For more details, refer to Gulf Times.
