The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games have officially unveiled their slogan, “Stars Align,” a phrase that aims to encapsulate the convergence of athletic dedication and the allure of Hollywood. The announcement was made on Wednesday, accompanied by a vibrant promotional video featuring iconic Southern California landmarks, set to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ hit song “Can’t Stop.”
According to LA28 Chief Marketing Officer Alex Merchan, the slogan is designed to challenge traditional notions of destiny. In an interview, Merchan stated, “‘Stars Align’ to us, is not based on luck. It’s grounded in effort and commitment. It’s when preparation meets opportunity, we create something extraordinary.” This message aligns with the organizing committee’s goal of redefining how success is perceived in the context of the Games.
Community Engagement and Local Identity
Merchan emphasized that the slogan extends beyond the estimated 15,000 athletes who will compete, highlighting the importance of local involvement. The campaign aims to include the workforce, volunteers, and small businesses through initiatives like the LA28’s “Local Authentic” vendor program. “Yes, we will celebrate those athletes, but we can’t lose sight that these Games will be delivered by all the stars that take part in bringing them about,” he added, inviting the community to engage early in the preparations.
Looking Ahead to the Games
The Olympic Games are set to commence on July 14, 2028, followed by the Paralympics on August 15. The launch of the slogan marks a significant milestone in the lead-up to the Games, which will feature a comprehensive commercial and cultural campaign, including a domestic torch relay across all 50 states and the unveiling of the official mascot. Merchan noted, “This is just the spark, our first coming out of the gate. We have much more to come.”
As the LA28 Games approach, the slogan “Stars Align” not only reflects the spirit of competition but also aims to foster a sense of community and shared purpose among all participants and supporters. For more details, visit ARN News Centre.
