Hull City extends unbeaten Premier League start with 2-2 draw at Chelsea

Hull City has extended its unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Manager Sergej Jakirovic expressed pride in his team’s performance, highlighting the significance of the result for the promoted side, which now has eight points from its opening four matches, as reported by ARN News Centre.

The match saw Chelsea take the lead through Morgan Rogers, but Hull quickly equalised when Mohammed Belloumi capitalised on a defensive error. Hull then took the lead, looking poised for a potential upset until Joao Pedro equalised for Chelsea in the 66th minute.

Despite Chelsea’s late pressure for a winner, Hull’s defence held firm, allowing them to secure a valuable point. Jakirovic remarked on the importance of the draw, noting that his team had a significant chance to extend their lead but praised Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez for his excellent save.

Hull’s impressive start to the season has defied pre-season predictions of relegation. The team began with a notable 2-0 victory over Manchester United, followed by a win against Championship winners Coventry and a draw with Aston Villa. Their success has been attributed to strong defensive organisation and disciplined performances against more established teams.

Goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis has been instrumental in Hull’s early-season form, making several crucial saves to thwart Chelsea’s attacking threats. The team’s resilience has garnered attention as they continue to perform well against higher-ranked opponents.

Chelsea’s Defensive Struggles

While Hull’s performance has been commendable, Chelsea’s defensive issues remain a concern. The hosts dominated possession but were again punished for defensive lapses, notably a mistake by Jorrel Hato that allowed Hull to equalise.

Despite a significant summer investment of £349 million ($471.78 million) on 11 new signings and the sale of 17 players, Chelsea has yet to keep a clean sheet this season. The ongoing defensive struggles highlight the challenges faced by the club as it undergoes another managerial rebuild.
