Emirati entrepreneur Shaima Al Tunaiji entered the jewellery design industry approximately three years ago after completing specialized training courses. She aimed to transform her long-standing passion into a viable business. Al Tunaiji emphasized that her designs transcend mere aesthetics; they focus on conveying stories, values, and aspirations.

In her words, she strives to highlight the beauty of Emirati identity through various forms and elements, such as Emirati pearls combined with natural diamonds and gold. Al Tunaiji develops her designs locally and collaborates with UAE-based manufacturers, promoting her pieces through social media platforms. Her collections include designs inspired by ambition, the Emirati environment, traditional elements like the mandoos, and celestial themes that symbolize hope.

Al Tunaiji noted that her designs have been well-received by customers and are capable of competing with international styles available in the local market.

Jewellery with Meaning

Entrepreneur Sawsan Faisal’s journey into jewellery design began as a personal passion that evolved into a business after she undertook specialized training. Faisal believes in creating jewellery that conveys meaningful messages rather than merely decorative pieces. Many of her collections draw inspiration from Emirati heritage and Arab values.

Her designs include pieces like Al Kawthar, inspired by the imagery of a flowing river, and Saqour Al Ezz, which reflects the cultural significance of falcons in the UAE. Additionally, she has created a double-sided necklace that symbolizes the contrasting qualities of ambition and tranquility, along with a collection titled The Well, inspired by themes of hope and perseverance. Faisal’s products are manufactured locally and marketed through social media, where they have garnered significant interest.

Expanding Beyond Local Markets

Hanaa Al Ghurair, another Emirati entrepreneur, transformed her hobby into a business, promoting her jewellery through online platforms. Her collections blend gold, diamonds, and precious stones with designs that reflect both Emirati and Arab identities while conveying broader human values. Al Ghurair is optimistic about the potential for locally designed jewellery to penetrate international markets.

She stated that locally designed jewellery pieces are well-equipped to compete with international styles and attract consumers. However, she acknowledged challenges such as manufacturing costs and the search for effective marketing channels.

Entrepreneur Hajar Al Jabri noted that the increasing participation of Emirati women in jewellery design has enriched the sector with distinctive ideas and creative approaches. Having recently entered the field, Al Jabri aims to expand her business and reach wider audiences through various marketing channels.
