Dubai Sports World 2026 Launches with Expanded Facilities and New Activities, Strengthening Community Engagement

Dubai Sports World (DSW), the largest indoor sports and fitness venue in the region, has officially kicked off its summer season for 2026. The event, which began on June 19 and will run until August 25, features an expanded array of facilities and activities aimed at promoting health and fitness among residents and visitors.

The 16th edition of DSW was inaugurated by Mahir Julfar, Executive Vice President of Dubai World Trade Centre, along with Essa Sharif, Director of Sports Events at Dubai Sports Council. Representatives from Dubai Police, including Major Abdullah Ahmed Al Ammari, Captain Ali Hassan Al Rahma, First Lieutenant Juma Salim Al Maqbal, and Fatima Ahmed Buhajir, Chairman of the Positive Spirit Department, were also present. The opening event featured Maryam Alfarsi, the first Emirati female sprinter to compete in the Olympics, as the guest of honour.

Expanded Facilities and Activities

This year’s DSW is notable for its significant expansion, featuring over 40 courts and pitches that cover more than 280,000 square feet. Participants can engage in nine core sporting activities, including football, basketball, padel, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, badminton, cricket, and pickleball. The venue operates daily from 8 AM to midnight at Za’abeel Halls 2-6, providing a comprehensive schedule of events and activities suitable for all ages and skill levels.

Mahir Abdulkarim Julfar emphasized the commitment to community well-being, stating that DSW 2026 aims to provide accessible and inclusive sporting opportunities throughout the summer. He noted the collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and strategic partners to promote active lifestyles and enhance both physical and mental well-being through sport.

Community Engagement and Health Promotion

Essa Sharif remarked on the significance of DSW in Dubai’s summer sporting calendar, highlighting its role in making sport and physical activity integral to daily life. He pointed out that community-focused events like DSW contribute to Dubai’s reputation as one of the world’s most active and livable cities. The initiative aims to create opportunities for all societal members to adopt healthier lifestyles and engage in sports year-round.

Sharif also acknowledged the long-standing partnership with Dubai World Trade Centre, which has allowed for continuous evolution of the platform. This partnership has expanded access to high-quality sporting facilities and programs for families, youth, professional athletes, People of Determination, and senior citizens.

Fatima Ahmed Buhajir expressed that participation in DSW aligns with Dubai Police’s vision to enhance happiness and improve quality of life. She highlighted the event’s role in fostering community bonds and instilling positive values around health and physical activity. Buhajir encouraged the public, as well as Dubai Police staff and their families, to take advantage of the diverse programs available.

New Features for 2026

This year, DSW introduces several new features, including a 1-kilometer indoor running and walking track designed for those looking to maintain their fitness without exposure to outdoor heat. Another addition is Wolfi’s Cycling Academy, which offers structured cycling sessions for both beginners and experienced cyclists, enabling them to refine their skills throughout the summer.

Furthermore, the event is expanding its programming to include Orienteering, a sport that combines physical activity with navigation and problem-solving. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the UAE Orienteering Foundation, further diversifying the activities available to participants.
