Sohar International Strengthens Partnership with Dhofar Municipality for Khareef 2026 Tourism Initiative

Muscat – Sohar International has formalized its commitment to enhancing the Sultanate’s tourism and economic sectors by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Dhofar Municipality, designating itself as the Strategic Partner for Dhofar Khareef 2026. This collaboration aims to bolster the success of the Khareef season, fostering tourism, economic activity, and community engagement throughout Dhofar Governorate. The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and the Sultanate’s sustainable development goals.

The agreement was finalized on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar. His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, represented the municipality, while Khalil Salem Al Hedaifi, Head of Government and Private Banking Group, signed on behalf of Sohar International.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships

His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani emphasized the significance of public-private sector collaboration in enhancing the Dhofar Khareef 2026 experience. He noted the increasing momentum of the season, which has seen a rise in tourism inflow, activities, and service infrastructure. This growth further cements Dhofar Governorate’s status as a premier integrated tourism destination in the region.

Dr. Al Ghassani remarked on the value of the partnership with Sohar International, describing it as a model of institutional collaboration that supports national initiatives and major tourism seasons. He highlighted the focus on environmental sustainability, service enhancement, and impactful initiatives that enrich the season while fostering economic and social activity in Dhofar Governorate, in line with Oman Vision 2040 objectives.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

Under the terms of the agreement, Sohar International will provide comprehensive support for the activities and platforms associated with the Khareef season. The bank will also supply environmentally friendly electric vehicles to Dhofar Municipality, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and clean mobility solutions during the tourism season. The partnership encompasses collaborative efforts in marketing and promotional campaigns, alongside participation in seasonal events and activities.

Khalil Salem Al Hedaifi articulated the bank’s belief in the substantial tourism and economic value that Dhofar Khareef brings to the Sultanate. With over one million visitors annually and spending surpassing OMR 125 million, the season has emerged as a vital economic contributor. It supports economic diversification, enhances the non-oil sectors’ contribution to GDP, stimulates small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) activity, creates job opportunities, and boosts investment prospects across the Governorate.

Enhancing Visitor Experience and Economic Impact

Sohar International is committed to strengthening its role as a strategic partner for national tourism seasons and festivals throughout Oman. The bank actively supports initiatives that celebrate the cultural, tourism, and economic identity of the Sultanate. Through innovative programs and meaningful engagement, Sohar International aims to enrich visitor experiences, promote domestic tourism, and contribute to the broader economic and social value generated by national events and tourism platforms.

This partnership reflects Sohar International’s broader strategy of establishing impactful collaborations that support essential sectors, create long-term value, and reinforce its position as a trusted partner in sustainable development and community enrichment.
