The vehicle surpassed 500 km/h on Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road in Al Dhafra Region on November 1, 2026, marking a significant milestone in automotive history.

Record-Breaking Speed Achieved

During the meeting, the Crown Prince reviewed the details of the record-breaking attempt, which saw the YANGWANG U9 Xtreme reach a speed of 503.17 km/h, exceeding the previous record of 496.22 km/h set in Germany in 2025. This achievement underscores the capabilities of Abu Dhabi’s infrastructure and its commitment to fostering innovation in electric vehicle technology.

Abu Dhabi as a Global Hub for Mobility Technologies

The successful record attempt highlights Abu Dhabi’s role as a global hub for developing and testing future mobility technologies. The initiative involved collaboration among various entities, including the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), which facilitated the necessary conditions for the record attempt. This coordinated effort reinforces the emirate’s reputation as a leader in sustainable mobility solutions.

Strengthening Ties with the Automotive Industry

Abu Dhabi’s engagement with international automotive manufacturers, particularly from China, is growing. The decision by BYD to conduct its record-breaking achievement in Abu Dhabi reflects the emirate’s increasing prominence in the global automotive sector. With its strategic location, robust logistics infrastructure, and access to regional markets, Abu Dhabi offers a compelling platform for automotive companies seeking to expand their global presence.

The meeting was attended by key figures, including His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and His Excellency Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, further emphasizing the importance of this milestone for the emirate.
