Pickleball Fundraiser Strengthens Support for Seniors in North Aurora
A community initiative aimed at combating isolation among seniors is set to launch in North Aurora, Illinois. The “Pickleball Smash” event will take place on March 13, from 5 PM to 10 PM at Pickleball Kingdom, blending sports, music, and fundraising to benefit local causes.
Origins and Goals of the Event
The event was conceptualized by Brad Esposito and his fiancĂ©e Laura, both of whom have volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the Fox Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Esposito emphasized the desire to create an enjoyable environment where participants can connect with one another while supporting meaningful community efforts. He noted that fostering a sense of connection is key to the event’s mission.
Activities and Entertainment
Attendees can look forward to beginner-friendly pickleball instruction and open play suitable for various skill levels. The entertainment will be provided by The Harry Garner Band, known for its Chicago blues sound, featuring JR Wydra. In addition to the sports activities, food and non-alcoholic beverages will be offered throughout the evening.
Fundraising Efforts
A significant portion of the net proceeds generated from the event will go towards the Kane Senior Council Meals on Wheels program and the Fox Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Early bird tickets are available for $26 and will increase closer to the event date, while seniors and children under 12 can attend for a reduced price of $16.
Community Response and Involvement
Esposito highlighted the inspiration behind the event, stating that witnessing the impact of isolation on seniors and the overwhelming community support at last year’s Alzheimer’s walk significantly influenced their efforts. Organizers have collaborated with various local businesses to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a casual Friday night gathering, steering away from the traditional formal fundraiser format.
