ROX Abu Dhabi Strengthens African Presence with Launch of ROX ESI Egypt Joint Venture
ROX, a global AI technology company based in Abu Dhabi, has partnered with ESI (Ezz Elarab Elsewedy Investments) to establish ROX ESI Egypt. This joint venture marks ROX’s inaugural overseas investment, aiming to enhance manufacturing capabilities rooted in the UAE and extend them into Africa. Local production is anticipated to commence in the first half of 2027, enabling the company to better serve African customers, streamline supply routes, and respond swiftly to regional demand.
Strategic Importance of the Joint Venture
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Farid, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and Eng. Khaled Hashem, Egypt’s Minister of Industry. The ROX management team, including founder and CEO Jarvis, along with senior ESI leaders Eng. Hisham Ezz Elarab and Eng. Ahmed El Sewedy, underscored the strategic significance of this initiative. The collaboration combines ROX’s technological expertise and international market experience with ESI’s robust manufacturing capabilities and in-depth understanding of the Egyptian market.
Ahmed El Sewedy emphasized Egypt’s potential as a production hub, particularly in the automotive sector and electric mobility. The geographic advantages and industrial base of Egypt provide ROX with a practical manufacturing point for its expansion into African markets.
Expanding Manufacturing Footprint
The establishment of ROX ESI Egypt signifies a pivotal moment for ROX, marking its first overseas investment since relocating its global headquarters to Abu Dhabi. This move not only broadens ROX’s manufacturing footprint beyond the UAE but also aligns with a broader transformation within the UAE’s industrial sector. The country is increasingly becoming a base for companies with ambitions to expand internationally, moving beyond merely attracting foreign investment.
Last month, during the MIITE event, ROX announced plans for the UAE’s first Advanced AI Manufacturing Centre, projected to begin vehicle production this year. This facility aims for an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles by 2030, contributing approximately 10% to the UAE’s Operation 300bn target.
Regional Supply Chain Optimization
The dual operations of ROX in the UAE and Egypt will create a more defined regional strategy. The UAE facility is designed to cater to demand across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), while ROX ESI Egypt will focus on the African market, bringing production closer to customers on the continent. This strategic alignment is expected to enhance ROX’s supply capabilities across both regions and improve responsiveness to local demand.
Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, ROX operates across the entire automotive value chain, including design, research and development, artificial intelligence, manufacturing, and marketing. The company currently serves over 40 global markets and has achieved cumulative deliveries exceeding 20,000 vehicles in the MENA region, with more than 5,000 sales recorded in the UAE.
Technological Innovations and Future Prospects
Jarvis, the Founder and CEO of ROX, remarked on the importance of the UAE in the company’s growth trajectory, noting that the Middle East remains one of its strongest regions. Since opening its first showroom in the UAE in September 2024, ROX has expanded its global presence to over 100 showrooms across more than 40 countries, including Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa. The company operates over 50 service centers in 34 countries, supported by a dedicated team of global service experts.
ROX continues to leverage its innovation base for expansion. As of April 30, 2026, the company had filed 1,718 patent applications globally, with 816 patents granted. Its technology portfolio includes intelligent chassis systems, range-extension technologies, smart cockpit platforms, and intelligent driving systems. ROX has also achieved significant milestones in the UAE, including the development of the first AI-driven complete manufacturing facility and the establishment of the automotive industry’s first joint laboratory with Borouge.
Implications for UAE and Africa
The launch of ROX ESI Egypt illustrates a shifting narrative within the UAE’s industrial landscape. The country is evolving from being merely a destination for global brands and foreign capital to becoming a base for companies aiming to manufacture and expand beyond its borders. ROX’s venture into Egypt exemplifies this transformation, linking Abu Dhabi’s industrial ambitions with Egypt’s production capabilities and Africa’s market potential.
As ROX Abu Dhabi embarks on its first international expansion, ROX ESI Egypt positions the company to capitalize on opportunities in African markets while maintaining the UAE as the focal point of its regional operations. This initiative underscores ROX’s commitment to integrating technology, manufacturing, and market access to establish a broader international presence.
