## Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Visits UAE Space Agency at Dubai Airshow 2025

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, recently visited the UAE Space Agency’s booth at the Dubai Airshow 2025. This event showcased several groundbreaking projects and initiatives, including the Sirb Programme, the Arab Satellite 813 Project, and the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt (EMA).

### Investment in Space: A Vision for the Future

During his visit, Sheikh Hamdan acknowledged the UAE Space Agency’s unwavering commitment to advancing the nation’s status as a key player in the global space sector. He emphasized that the UAE’s investment in space exploration is not just about technology but is rooted in a vision of fostering creativity and ambition. “Great achievements begin with bold ideas,” he stated, recognizing that determination and excellence transform these ideas into reality.

Sheikh Hamdan also pointed out that every new project and international collaboration significantly enhances the UAE’s standing among other leading nations in the space industry. The inspiring efforts of national talents are guiding the UAE toward a future where knowledge and technology will play a pivotal role in improving life for everyone.

### Sirb Satellite System: Empowering the Private Sector

As part of the discussions, the UAE Space Agency team presented Sheikh Hamdan with the initial design of the Sirb satellite system. This initiative is crucial for empowering the private sector and aims to achieve complete autonomy in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging from space.

The Sirb project, led by the UAE Space Agency and in collaboration with strategic partners like EDGE and the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), is now in its preliminary design phase. A dedicated team of UAE engineers and specialists is gaining hands-on experience in SAR payload development, which is pivotal in cultivating sovereign expertise in advanced satellite technologies.

### Arab Satellite 813: A Milestone Achievement

In a review of recent developments, the team also discussed progress on the Arab Satellite 813 project. This project has recently completed both the Launch Readiness Review and the Operational Readiness Review, marking a significant milestone. The ability to assemble and test satellites locally has been a major asset in advancing this endeavor.

The Arab Satellite 813 stands out as the first major Arab space initiative, providing an opportunity for Arab experts and researchers to actively engage in the development of space technologies. This project represents a significant step forward in uniting Arab nations in the exploration of space.

### Expanding UAE’s Space Presence

Sheikh Hamdan was also briefed on the ongoing efforts of the UAE Space Agency to fortify the UAE’s presence in the space arena. Initiatives aimed at promoting innovation, enhancing scientific research, developing national capabilities, and fostering cooperative ventures with both local and international partners are at the forefront of their mission. These collective efforts aim to lay the groundwork for a vibrant and sustainable space sector.

The UAE Space Agency led the largest Space Pavilion at this year’s Dubai Airshow, attracting extensive participation from both local and international organizations. This pavilion not only featured cutting-edge space technologies but also highlighted innovative national programs, showcasing the essential role of local talent in spearheading these advancements.

### Engaging with the Global Space Community

The Dubai Airshow 2025 was not just an exhibition, but also a hub for learning and interaction. The event included a space conference with over 60 speakers, featuring astronauts and representatives from various global space agencies. Educational initiatives such as the Planet X challenge and space application competitions added a dynamic aspect to the event, further engaging the community.

Additionally, several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and strategic agreements were signed during the exhibition, aimed at strengthening collaborative efforts in scientific research and space technology development. High-level meetings were held with global agencies and companies to foster future partnerships, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to the global space community.
