WeWalk Returns: Join the Fight Against Childhood Diabetes

Introduction to WeWalk 2023

Get ready for an inspiring event as WeWalk makes its much-anticipated comeback this year. Organized by TECOM Group in partnership with the Dubai Charity Association, this charity walkathon is set for Saturday, November 15, 2023, at Dubai Science Park. Now in its sixth year, WeWalk aims to raise awareness and funds to support the treatment of children living with diabetes.

A Community-Focused Event

This year, WeWalk is inviting Dubai’s residents, friends, and families to engage in a variety of physical activities. Participants can choose from walking, jogging, or running a scenic 3.5 km route, or opt for a more challenging 17 km cycling track. This initiative is not just about exercise; it’s a day filled with community spirit, health-focused activities, and philanthropy.

The Importance of Diabetes Awareness

With over 85 million people affected by diabetes in the Middle East and North Africa, as reported by the International Diabetes Federation, the message of diabetes prevention and management is critical. WeWalk seeks to unite everyone—from corporate teams to local families—to promote health and raise crucial funds for the Dubai Charity Association. Every dirham raised during the event will directly support efforts aimed at increasing awareness of diabetes prevention and management, particularly among the younger population.

Voices Behind the Initiative

Haif Zamzam, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Marketing at TECOM Group and Chair of the ESG Committee, highlighted the importance of community involvement: “Educating ourselves about the challenges faced by our community is part of our civic duty. WeWalk aims to strengthen social cohesion and emphasize the need for healthier lifestyle choices. With alignment to the We the UAE 2031 and Dubai Social Agenda 33, we will continue initiatives that facilitate crucial conversations about diabetes.”

His Excellency Ahmed Al Suwaidi, CEO of the Dubai Charity Association, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the collaboration. “This event reflects our commitment to charitable work and social solidarity. The proceeds will go towards supporting children living with diabetes, and we encourage everyone to be part of this vital initiative.”

A Fun-Filled Day for All

The event promises to be an exciting morning for all attendees. Participants can look forward to an array of entertainment, including live performances and thrilling fitness sessions. Special highlights include a unique activation from Real Madrid World, featuring an opportunity to meet Roberto Carlos, a football legend and Real Madrid ambassador.

Last year’s WeWalk drew thousands of enthusiastic participants, and this year’s edition aims to build on that success with an even more vibrant atmosphere. Besides enjoying a walking route around the breathtaking Dubai Science Park, attendees will benefit from stage shows, interactive games, educational booths, and activities suitable for all ages.

Support from Community Partners

The 2023 edition of WeWalk benefits from extensive support from various sectors, including prominent partners like Dubai Sports Council, Dubai Police, and Dubai Science Park. The event is further backed by notable organizations such as the AW Rostamani Group, Chery UAE, and Dubai Media Incorporated.

WeWalk’s Gold Partners also include well-known brands like Skechers and Medtronic, ensuring a broad coalition focused on making a positive impact in the community. American Hospital serves as the Official Medical Support Partner for the event.
