Miyu Yamashita successfully defended her title at the LPGA Tour Maybank Championship in Malaysia, securing a two-stroke victory on Sunday. The Japanese golfer finished the tournament with a final score of 22-under-par, following a strong final round of four-under 68 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club.
Yamashita’s performance included five birdies and just one bogey, which came at the par-four ninth hole. This win marks her fifth title on the LPGA Tour, and she has been in impressive form, having led the tournament since the second round. The 25-year-old, currently ranked fourth in the world, previously claimed her first major title at the Women’s British Open last year.
China’s Yan Liu also delivered a solid performance, carding a final round of 68 to finish in second place at 20-under-par. Meanwhile, French golfer Pauline Roussin-Bouchard and Thai amateur Marisa Tojai tied for third, both finishing one stroke behind Liu.
The Asian swing of the LPGA Tour will conclude next weekend with the TOTO Japan Classic, where Yamashita will look to continue her winning momentum.
According to Gulf Times, Yamashita’s victory reinforces her status as one of the top players on the tour.
