DEWA Launches Smart Living Tools to Help Dubai Residents Slash Summer Utility Bills
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has introduced its Smart Living initiative, aimed at assisting households in managing their utility expenses during the summer months. Launched on June 16, this initiative is part of DEWA’s annual summer awareness campaign themed “Enjoy Sustainable Vibes This Summer.” The campaign emphasizes responsible resource usage and promotes sustainable living through various lectures, competitions, and smart services.
The Smart Living initiative provides residents with an interactive dashboard accessible via DEWA’s website and mobile app. This platform offers real-time data to help customers make informed decisions regarding their electricity and water consumption, particularly during the hotter months.
Overview of the Smart Living Initiative
The Smart Living initiative is designed to empower residents with tools that facilitate efficient management of electricity and water usage. The dashboard allows users to monitor billing details, tariff segments, and track consumption patterns on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Additionally, it features several smart tools aimed at helping users optimize their utility usage.
Accessing the DEWA Dashboard
To utilize the DEWA dashboard, users can follow these steps:
- Visit DEWA’s website at dewa.gov.ae or download the DEWA Smart App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Sign in using your UAE PASS.
- Upon logging in, users will see a summary of their electricity and water consumption, along with the carbon footprint generated by their household.
- Users can scroll through the dashboard to compare consumption for specific months or years, and if equipped with a smart meter, they can view daily consumption patterns.
- The “Similar Homes Comparison” feature allows users to see how their consumption patterns stack up against similar households in their area.
- To access DEWA’s smart tools, navigate to the “Consumption Management” section.
Smart Living Tools Available
DEWA offers several smart tools that enable residents to manage their utility consumption effectively. These tools include:
1. Consumption Assessment Tool
The Consumption Assessment Tool helps users understand unexpected spikes in electricity usage. It provides a detailed report on consumption breakdown and offers tailored recommendations for reducing energy usage.
To access the tool:
- Visit the Consumption Assessment Tool page on DEWA’s website or through the Smart App. Click “Start Now” and log in with your UAE PASS.
- Complete a questionnaire regarding your residential unit, including the number of bedrooms and types of appliances.
- After finishing the questionnaire, users will receive a breakdown of their energy consumption and insights into which activities consume the most energy.
- Based on the responses, the tool generates customized tips for reducing energy consumption, such as recommending energy-efficient lighting options.
2. Away Mode
Away Mode is designed for users who want to monitor their home’s electricity and water usage while they are away. This tool provides regular updates on consumption trends and alerts users to any unusual spikes.
To activate Away Mode:
- Visit the Away Mode section on DEWA’s website or through the Smart App.
- Enter your DEWA account number and receive a one-time password (OTP) via SMS.
- Specify the start and end dates for the Away Mode activation.
- Choose the frequency of consumption reports—daily or weekly—and enter your email address to receive updates.
Users will receive confirmation via SMS and email once registered for the service.
3. High Water Usage Alert
The High Water Usage Alert system is designed to notify users of potential leaks or abnormal water consumption. This tool automatically sends notifications via email or SMS if the water meter detects consistently high usage over a 48-hour period compared to the average daily usage over the past three months.
If the issue persists without resolution, DEWA will continue to send alerts every 15 days for up to three months. If no action is taken, the higher consumption level will be considered the new average, and alerts will cease.
This service is available to all premises equipped with smart meters, requiring no subscription.
