47-Kilo Transformation: Dubai Expat Harnesses Time to Redefine His Life

Dubai-based entrepreneur Ilia Sheludiakov, originally from Russia, embarked on a transformative journey after relocating to the UAE in 2022. At 26, he viewed Dubai as a land of opportunity, drawn by its safety and international environment. However, beneath this ambition lay a personal struggle; Sheludiakov weighed over 132 kilograms and felt disconnected from his own well-being.

A Journey That Began with Discomfort

Sheludiakov’s transformation was not sparked by a fad diet or drastic lifestyle changes. Instead, it began with a conscious decision to change his life steadily and purposefully. He emphasized that discipline was key, stating that through daily commitment, he transformed not only his body but also his mindset and lifestyle.

Over the past two years, his achievements have been significant:

  • Completing a full 42-kilometre marathon.
  • Running a total of 2,603 kilometres.
  • Restructuring his daily habits and lifestyle.
  • Writing and publishing a book.

Today, Sheludiakov’s focus extends beyond physical transformation to a broader understanding of time, effort, and long-term success.

From Convenience to Conscious Living

Prior to his transformation, Sheludiakov’s diet consisted largely of fast food, sugary drinks, and processed carbohydrates. He admits he rarely considered the long-term effects of his food choices. Now, his meals are centered around whole foods, including lean proteins, vegetables, fruits, and water. This shift is not merely nutritional but intentional.

He articulated that the most significant change is his approach to eating, stating, “I now eat to support my goals rather than my impulses.” This clarity extends to how he manages cravings, viewing them as part of his adaptation process rather than obstacles.

Consistency Over Complexity

Avoiding extreme diets, Sheludiakov concentrated on fundamental changes: reducing processed foods, increasing protein intake, and maintaining a calorie deficit when necessary. He believes that “consistency beats complexity.”

His training philosophy mirrored this approach. Initially, he prioritized movement through long walks and basic cardio, which evolved into a structured routine that includes running and strength training. Currently, he trains three to four times a week, focusing on endurance and capability rather than just weight loss.

Navigating Dubai’s Social Lifestyle

Living in Dubai, where social gatherings often revolve around dining, presented unique challenges. However, Sheludiakov did not isolate himself from these experiences. He maintained that discipline does not necessitate isolation. Instead, he adopted a practical mindset, treating meals as decisions rather than celebrations, ensuring that one indulgent meal did not derail his overall progress.

The Long Game: Understanding Invisible Progress

Patience emerged as a crucial lesson for Sheludiakov. While he experienced early benefits such as improved energy and sleep, significant physical changes took longer to manifest. He noted that “most people underestimate how invisible progress can be in the beginning,” with visible changes becoming apparent after about a year.

Even during periods of stagnation, he focused on maintaining correct behaviors, trusting that results would follow. He utilized metrics as tools rather than emotional triggers, emphasizing the importance of long-term trends over individual numbers.

‘Temporalism’: A Philosophy Born from Transformation

Sheludiakov’s experiences led to the development of ‘Temporalism,’ a philosophy he formally introduced in 2026 through his book. At its core, Temporalism posits that time is the most valuable asset, shaped by the relationship between present actions and future outcomes. He explained, “The future is not a random destination that arrives on its own. It is something we actively build through decisions made today.”

This philosophy underscores the importance of responsibility, patience, and long-term thinking, encouraging individuals to align their actions with their aspirations. It asserts that meaningful achievements are often the result of actions taken long before they become visible.

Weight Loss Through the Lens of Time

Sheludiakov attributes his 47-kilogram weight loss directly to this philosophy. He argues that weight loss, diet, and exercise exemplify how time can transform small actions into significant outcomes. Rather than seeking rapid results, he reframes the focus to who a person becomes throughout the process.

He noted, “People often overestimate what can be achieved in a day and underestimate what can be achieved in years.” In this framework, even minor decisions, such as reducing sugar intake, are seen as investments in the future rather than temporary sacrifices.

A Life Rebuilt Through Direction

Sheludiakov’s transformation extends far beyond physical changes. He described the difference as profound, noting increased energy, focus, endurance, and confidence that now permeate all aspects of his life, including business and personal relationships.

More importantly, this journey has reshaped his belief system, demonstrating that significant life changes often stem from small, consistent actions over time. As an investor, entrepreneur, and philosophical writer, he asserts that these principles are applicable across various fields, from health to business.

He concluded, “Time does not ruin your life. Lack of direction does. Years pass anyway. The question is, did time carry you somewhere or just away?”
