Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed Reviews RTA Initiatives Strengthening Dubai’s Future Mobility

Dubai’s Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, recently assessed a series of innovative transport initiatives spearheaded by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). This review took place in Dubai and underscores the emirate’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility through smart and sustainable solutions.

During the review, Sheikh Hamdan was briefed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, on several key projects. These include the rapid intervention vehicle, a smart bus station, and soft mobility parking facilities. The Crown Prince emphasized the importance of these initiatives in improving the efficiency and sustainability of Dubai’s transportation network.

Sheikh Hamdan remarked that the ambitious development projects in Dubai, particularly those focused on modern mass transit systems, align with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He noted that these efforts solidify Dubai’s status as a leader in adopting innovative solutions and future technologies.

“The variety of futuristic mass transit projects we witness today is not merely the result of infrastructure development priorities; it represents a comprehensive redefinition of urban mobility in line with the highest international standards,” Sheikh Hamdan stated. He added that Dubai aims to be the city that is quickest to anticipate the future and most capable of turning it into reality.

Maximising Developmental Impact

The visit, which included His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, reflects the leadership’s focus on monitoring government performance through field visits. This approach allows for assessing project readiness and ensuring that progress aligns with established timelines and objectives.

One of the highlights of the review was the rapid intervention vehicle designed to enhance emergency response during heavy rainfall. This vehicle features advanced pumping systems capable of managing large volumes of water, rescue equipment, a thermal drone for field assessments, and backup power generation. It significantly reduces response times by over 75%, enhances safety, and minimizes disruption to traffic flow.

Smart Bus Station

Sheikh Hamdan also examined the smart bus station project, which is part of RTA’s broader digital transformation and sustainability initiatives. Currently 90% complete, this station is situated on Sheikh Zayed Road in Al Barsha 2, near the Mall of the Emirates. It offers fully contactless and paperless services integrated with the nol card and S’hail app. The station is equipped with solar panels, AI-powered cameras, smart air-quality sensors, and has achieved LEED Platinum certification.

Soft Mobility Parking Facilities

In an effort to promote sustainable transport, Sheikh Hamdan reviewed the soft mobility parking facilities project aimed at encouraging the use of bicycles and electric scooters. These facilities are designed with shaded structures, charging capabilities, smart monitoring systems, and advertising opportunities. They are strategically located near public transport hubs to facilitate first- and last-mile connectivity.

This initiative comes in response to a 23% increase in bicycle usage, with total trips reaching 57.6 million in 2025. A phased expansion plan is set to begin with pilot operations at five locations in July 2026, leading to permanent deployment by 2028.

Mattar Al Tayer highlighted that these initiatives reflect RTA’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies and developing sustainable transport solutions. They reinforce Dubai’s global leadership in smart mobility and innovation.
