Indian billionaire businessman Balvinder Singh Sahni, also known as ‘Abu Sabah,’ has been sentenced to five years in prison for money laundering through a criminal group. According to Gulf News, the Dubai Fourth Criminal Court has ordered that 150 million Dirhams be confiscated from Sahni and imposed a fine of 500,000 Dirhams (approximately ₹1.15 crore). Upon completing his sentence, Sahni is also set to be deported.

Sahni is the founder of RSG Group, a conglomerate with a footprint in the UAE, the US, and India. He gained notoriety in the region for purchasing the ‘D5’ license plate for a staggering 33 million Dirhams, one of the most expensive license plates in the Emirates. This extravagant acquisition not only showcased his wealth but also attracted widespread media attention.

Born on April 7, 1972, in Kuwait City, Balvinder Singh Sahni established himself as the founder and chairman of the RSG Group, which boasts a valuation in the billions of dirhams. Coming from a Punjabi background, Sahni began his entrepreneurial journey at the tender age of 18. Opting to leave his business management studies, he started an auto spare parts company.
