Significant Benefits for Imams and Muezzins in Sharjah

New Directives for Mosque Staff

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah and a member of the Supreme Council, has announced a transformative initiative concerning the imams and muezzins serving in the emirate’s mosques. Effective immediately, these spiritual leaders will be integrated into the Sharjah government’s general staff, marking a significant development in their employment status.

Equal Benefits with Government Employees

This new directive ensures that imams and muezzins receive the same privileges as other government employees. Among these benefits are promotions, multiple allowances, comprehensive health insurance, and a specific work nature allowance totaling AED 3,000. These enhancements reflect a broader recognition of the critical roles these individuals play in the community’s spiritual life.

Management of Leave Accrual

Further reinforcing the support for imams and muezzins, His Highness has stipulated that the system for managing their periodic leave will be restructured. If they opt not to take their allotted leave, they will retain their accrued leave balance. This change ensures that these religious leaders can focus on their duties without the pressure of using leave they may not need.

Financial Compensation for Leave

In partnership with the Department of Islamic Affairs, the new policy also includes a provision for cash equivalent compensation for any unused leave. This acknowledgment emphasizes the important contributions of imams and muezzins in serving the community and maintaining the sanctity of the mosques.

Importance of This Initiative

These directives come at a time when there is a growing recognition of the pivotal role that imams and muezzins play within the community. By formalizing their employment status and offering enhanced benefits, the Sharjah government is taking critical steps to support the spiritual fabric of society and ensure that those dedicated to religious service are valued and well-taken care of.

In conclusion, this initiative by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi not only improves the working conditions for imams and muezzins but also uplifts the entire community, reinforcing the significance of their roles in religious and social contexts.
