The OnePlus 16 was officially launched today in China, marking the company’s first flagship smartphone since its withdrawal from the US and European markets earlier this summer. This new device is positioned as a high-performance option, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, up to 1TB of storage, and 16GB of RAM, alongside a substantial 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery.
One of the standout features of the OnePlus 16 is its display, which boasts a 185Hz OLED panel. This upgrade allows for 185 frames per second in compatible gaming titles and supports a system-wide refresh rate of up to 165Hz, a notable advancement for high refresh rate displays. The phone also includes 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities, enhancing its power management.
Camera Enhancements
Camera performance, traditionally a weaker aspect for OnePlus, has seen significant improvements in the 16. The main camera now features a 200-megapixel resolution, a larger 1/1.4-inch sensor, and a faster f/1.4 aperture, addressing previous criticisms regarding low-light performance. Additionally, the device includes a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a telephoto camera, which has also been upgraded to a 1/1.95-inch sensor.
Design and Availability
The OnePlus 16 showcases a unique design with a silver finish that incorporates LED lighting, displaying a prominent “16” and what the company describes as galactic coordinates. These lights can flash in various rhythms to indicate notifications for calls, messages, and battery status.
In terms of pricing, the OnePlus 16 starts at Â¥5,699 (approximately $850). However, with the company’s exit from the US and European markets, there are currently no plans for a launch in those regions.
