Discovering Akari: A Unique Wellness Centre in Dubai
In the heart of One Central, Dubai, a new wellness centre, Akari, has recently opened its doors. Drawing inspiration from Japanese design principles, Akari marries traditional medicinal concepts with contemporary architectural practices. The centre aims to offer a soothing space that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit.
The Vision Behind Akari
Founded by Katia de Rham, who serves as the creative director and hospitality advisor, Akari takes its name from the Japanese word meaning light, brightness, or glow. This beautifully designed facility spans 200 square meters and was crafted by Valentina Cereda, the visionary founder of the architecture firm Energy and Space.
Harmonious Design Elements
The design of Akari stands out for its integration of sacred ancient wisdom and regenerative architectural principles. The space combines elements such as classical Feng Shui, sacred geometry, geomancy, and building biology.
Thoughtfully Selected Materials
The materials chosen for the centre have been carefully sourced for their non-toxic and sustainable characteristics, as well as their vibrational qualities. Organic materials, limewash, and wood come together with natural light to form a sanctuary that resonates deeply with those who enter.
At the centre of this tranquil space sits a rose quartz crystal pyramid, known for its healing properties and ability to promote self-love. Above it, a dome in the ceiling enhances the energy, amplifying the comforting vibrations throughout the centre.
Creating a Medicinal Environment
Cereda emphasizes the intent behind the architecture, stating that every detail is designed to support wellness therapies. “The objective was to create a truly healthy space that becomes medicinally supportive of Akari’s wellness therapies, blending ancient wisdom with organic materials,” she explained in an interview with Spa Business.
An Architectural Approach to Wellness
Each ceiling angle, proportion, and pathway in Akari is crafted to foster natural coherence and harmonic resonance. This approach positions the architecture itself as a form of medicine, enriching the overall wellness experience for visitors.
Advanced Treatments Offered
Akari boasts four dedicated therapy rooms, each equipped for advanced technology treatments that cater to various wellness needs.
Red Light Therapy
One of the signature treatments available is red light therapy, which begins at AED 400 (approximately USD 109). This therapy aims to rejuvenate the skin and improve overall health, with package discounts for multiple sessions.
IHHT Oxygen Training
Another innovative offering is the IHHT (Intermittent Hypoxic-Hyperoxic Training) oxygen training, conducted in a meditation pod. Priced at AED 750 (about USD 204) for a single session, this treatment focuses on enhancing respiratory efficiency and promoting relaxation.
Future Additions
Looking ahead, Akari is considering the introduction of a hyperbaric chamber to expand its range of treatments further.
A Unique Dining Experience
Not just a centre for treatments, Akari also features a Brain Bar, providing a unique dining experience. This area offers adaptogen-infused food and beverages designed to support mental and physical well-being, making it a comprehensive destination for anyone seeking wellness.
In essence, Akari stands as a beacon of health and healing in Dubai, uniting traditional wisdom with modern science in an environment that promises to rejuvenate its guests’ spirits.
