Nakheel awards contract to Mar Marine for Dubai Islands shoreline upgrade

Published:

Nakheel, a subsidiary of Dubai Holding Real Estate, has awarded a significant contract to Mar Marine & Building Contracting LLC for marine and beach works on Island B at Dubai Islands. This project, set for completion by the fourth quarter of 2027, will enhance the island’s coastal landscape by adding 320 meters of beach frontage and upgrading approximately 3 kilometers of the western shoreline.

The scope of the contract includes the construction of new breakwaters, the removal of existing protective rock revetments, and the creation of a new beach area adjacent to Bay Villas. Additionally, Mar Marine will refurbish and conduct remedial works on several existing beach areas on the western side of Island B, effectively integrating new and upgraded coastal stretches.

Supporting Infrastructure Development

This beachfront enhancement is part of a broader initiative to support the delivery of Bay Villas, a residential community comprising 636 homes, including villas and townhouses. The development of Bay Villas is progressing alongside the marine works, which are crucial for establishing a vibrant waterfront environment.

In August 2025, Nakheel had previously awarded a construction contract worth AED 2.6 billion to Fibrex Contracting LLC for the overall development of Island B. The recent contract with Mar Marine follows an earlier AED 527 million contract awarded to Al Nasr Contracting Company in April 2026 for primary infrastructure and utilities works on the island. These contracts collectively advance the coordinated delivery of essential infrastructure and enhance the coastal landscape of Dubai Islands.

Dubai Islands: A New Waterfront Destination

Dubai Islands, spanning 18.6 square kilometers across five islands, aims to extend Dubai’s historic Deira coastline into a major new waterfront destination. The master plan is designed to accommodate over 230,000 residents across approximately 62,000 homes, alongside more than 11,000 hotel keys and over 4,000 branded residences. This ambitious project is expected to significantly contribute to Dubai’s real estate landscape and tourism sector.

According to the relevant named organisation, the ongoing developments at Dubai Islands reflect Nakheel’s commitment to enhancing the emirate’s coastal offerings and residential appeal.
