SELANGOR, MALAYSIA – On July 3, 2026, Montfort Boys Town (MBT) celebrated the graduation of 107 students, all of whom successfully earned their Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) Level 2 certification. This achievement underscores the institution’s commitment to enhancing Malaysia’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) agenda by equipping young individuals with essential skills and values needed in the evolving workforce.

Graduation Ceremony Highlights

The graduation ceremony, themed “Powered by Skills, Fuelled by Ambition,” was officiated by YB Lee Chean Chung, Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Ir. Dr. Philip Tan Chee Lin, along with board members, corporate sponsors, industry partners, parents, and prospective employers.

The graduating cohort represented six vocational disciplines:

  • Automotive – 24 students
  • Bakery and Pastry – 23 students
  • Electrical – 21 students
  • Hospitality – 19 students
  • Graphic Design and Multimedia – 11 students
  • Facility Maintenance – 9 students

In his address, Brother Robin Devasagayam emphasized the critical role of TVET in preparing young Malaysians for future employment opportunities. He stated, “Montfort provides the graduates with a KEY of skills and character. With this KEY, the graduates can open the door to their future.”

Commitment to Inclusive Education

Since its inception, Montfort Boys Town has produced approximately 7,500 graduates, many of whom have successfully transitioned into various industries. The institution’s focus on practical, industry-oriented vocational training continues to contribute significantly to Malaysia’s skilled talent pipeline.

Among the graduates, Wan Kai Qing, the Female Scholar of the Year, highlighted the importance of integrity and resilience. She encouraged her peers to maintain focus on their goals while trusting in their abilities. Looi Wen Ting, the Male Scholar of the Year, shared his personal transformation, noting that the guidance he received at MBT helped him develop discipline and a sense of purpose.

Montfort Boys Town is also dedicated to ensuring that quality skills education is accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds, including neurodivergent individuals.

Celebrating Neurodiversity

Aaron Barare Kumar, a graduate diagnosed with autism at age five, delivered the graduates’ address during the ceremony. He received awards for Good Discipline, Outstanding Improvement, and Special Service, recognizing his dedication and personal growth. Aaron’s achievements exemplify the importance of inclusive TVET pathways, enabling high-functioning neurodivergent learners to acquire practical skills and pursue sustainable career opportunities.

He urged younger students to remain resilient in the face of challenges, emphasizing that setbacks should not deter them from their goals. “Success comes from perseverance, self-belief, and a willingness to keep moving forward despite difficulties,” he stated.

Future Developments and Initiatives

Montfort Boys Town is exploring the introduction of specialized programs tailored for high-functioning neurodivergent students to broaden access to vocational training and employment opportunities. The institution plans to upgrade its existing SKM Level 2 programs to SKM Level 3 and introduce SKM certification for its Graphic Design and Multimedia program, further enhancing career progression opportunities for future students.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of the Eva Gomez Endowment Fund Award, with Risyaah A/P Palanivelu receiving RM1,000 in recognition of her perseverance and commitment throughout her studies.

As the demand for skilled talent continues to rise across various industries, Montfort Boys Town remains committed to developing a future-ready workforce through quality vocational education while ensuring that opportunities remain accessible to all learners.
