Jotun Strengthens Egypt’s Industrial Growth with Local Manufacturing of Advanced Fire Protection Solutions

Cairo, Egypt — Jotun Egypt recently hosted an industry-focused event aimed at emphasizing the significance of local manufacturing and advanced passive fire protection technologies in bolstering Egypt’s industrial development. The gathering included representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Investment, the Federation of Egyptian Industries, energy experts from the Senate, engineering and consulting firms, specialists from the National Housing and Building Research Center, and the Ambassador of Norway to Egypt.

The event underscored Jotun Egypt’s commitment to local production of advanced fire protection solutions, reflecting the company’s dedication to enhancing Egypt’s industrial landscape. By introducing globally recognized fire protection technologies and expertise to the Egyptian market, Jotun aims to meet a wide array of local project needs. These projects span various sectors, including transportation, metro systems, high-speed rail, monorails, industrial facilities, and high-rise residential buildings. The company’s local manufacturing capabilities are also aligned with Egypt’s localization initiatives, contributing to export growth and reinforcing the sustainability and resilience of national infrastructure.

Local Manufacturing of Steel Master

During the event, Jotun showcased its local production of Steel Master at its Egyptian facility, which boasts an annual production capacity of 72 million liters in a single-shift operation. This capability highlights the company’s ongoing investment in local manufacturing, aimed at supporting Egypt’s industrial growth and making advanced fire protection technologies more accessible to the market. The initiative reflects Jotun’s strategy of merging global innovation with local production, thereby promoting technology transfer, enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities, and reducing reliance on imports.

SteelMaster is Jotun’s advanced reactive fire protection coating designed for structural steel. It has undergone rigorous testing in accordance with internationally recognized fire protection standards and has received certification from accredited third-party organizations. When subjected to extreme heat, SteelMaster undergoes a chemical reaction that creates an insulating barrier around the steel, effectively slowing heat transfer and maintaining the structure’s load-bearing capacity for an extended period. Depending on various factors, including product type and critical steel temperature, SteelMaster can provide fire protection for up to 180 minutes, thereby extending evacuation time and facilitating emergency response while minimizing the risk of structural failure.

Strategic Commitment to Local Capabilities

Ibrahim Alshami, Managing Director of Jotun Egypt, emphasized that the local manufacturing of advanced fire protection solutions represents more than just a production milestone; it is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing local capabilities and applying global standards within Egypt. He noted that this approach enables Jotun Egypt to make world-class fire protection solutions more accessible to sectors that prioritize safety, continuity, and sustainable performance.

The local manufacturing of SteelMaster also aligns with Jotun’s broader mission to strengthen local production capabilities and make advanced fire protection solutions readily available across various sectors, including industrial, infrastructure, commercial, and real estate. This initiative is designed to cater to the specific needs of the Egyptian market while also addressing regional demand, thus facilitating more efficient delivery and improving access to globally certified fire protection solutions.

Importance of Passive Fire Protection

Passive fire protection is crucial for ensuring the long-term resilience of assets. By delaying structural failure during a fire, such systems enhance safety during evacuations, provide additional time for emergency responses, and help mitigate damage to buildings, equipment, and other essential assets.

Through this initiative, Jotun reinforces its position as a reliable partner in national projects and strategic developments, combining global expertise with local manufacturing to support Egypt’s industrial growth and safeguard critical infrastructure.
