MIT DesignX Dubai Accelerator Program Concludes Third Cohort with Dubai Silicon Oasis
Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the specialized economic zone focused on knowledge and innovation, has officially wrapped up the third cohort of the MIT DesignX Dubai Accelerator Program (MDXB). The conclusion was marked by a Demo Day held at the DSO, showcasing a new wave of design-led ventures ready to confront key regional and global challenges.
Overview of the Program
Collaboratively delivered with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Global Growth Hub (GGH), this program targets startups that demonstrate innovative potential. The latest cohort featured 11 companies, nearly half of which are based outside the UAE. These ventures span multiple sectors, including artificial intelligence, healthcare, sustainable materials, autonomous systems, and workforce technologies.
During the program, participants engaged in rigorous workshops and mentorship sessions provided by MIT DesignX, supported by MIT student interns and the Global Growth Hub. Founders benefited from structured guidance, direct access to Dubai’s innovation ecosystem, and connections to investors, corporate partners, and governmental stakeholders.
Funding and Awards
During the Demo Day, the top three performing startups were awarded a total of AED 100,000 in equity-free funding, along with one-year business setup packages from Dubai Silicon Oasis. The winning teams included:
- Katrix, recognized for its development of a real-time AI perception platform aimed at enhancing autonomous systems and smart infrastructure.
- Wellmatix, which accelerates sustainable materials and chemical research through an AI-driven platform.
- Nashid, a workforce verification solution enhancing compliance and safety in industrial and construction projects.
Additionally, Apollo Medica and The B.E. Story received one-year DSO business setup packages for their scalable and innovative projects focused on rehabilitation outcomes and eco-friendly cleaning products, respectively.
Perspectives from Leaders
Badr Buhannad, Director General of Dubai Silicon Oasis, emphasized the program’s alignment with Dubai’s long-term economic vision. He stated that the initiative reflects a strategic commitment to promoting technology-driven entrepreneurship, enabling founders to transform research and innovation into ventures of regional and global significance.

Omar Hassan, Managing Director of the Global Growth Hub, remarked on Dubai’s growing reputation as a global technology hub. He underlined the importance of partnerships like that with DSO, which connect innovators to a robust ecosystem rich in talent and funding.
Award-Winning Startups
Katrix AI, the first-place recipient, has engineered a cloud-independent, real-time perception platform for safety-critical areas. This innovative platform integrates multiple sensor inputs, combining AI processing to bolster operational safety and accuracy in both mobility and industrial applications.
Wellmatix, the runner-up, employs AI to streamline materials and chemical research and development, effectively shortening traditional development timelines and paving the way for sustainable material commercialization.
Nashid, placed third, offers a comprehensive workforce verification and compliance platform for the industrial and construction sectors, promoting on-site personnel safety and transparency.
Program Significance
The MIT DesignX Accelerator Program embodies a strategic alliance between Dubai Silicon Oasis and MIT to infuse the emirate with globally recognized design-led innovation frameworks. By intertwining research, design thinking, and commercial validation, it delivers a transformative experience that aids founders in transitioning from innovative concepts to scalable businesses.
Participants gain more than just incubation; they enjoy extensive access to DSO’s integrated ecosystem, linking them with academia, corporate entities, investors, and regulatory stakeholders. This enables ventures to test and refine their business models within a dynamic operational framework.
Since its launch, MIT DesignX has supported over 200 ventures globally, collectively achieving valuations exceeding $1 billion. This success highlights the program’s significant contribution to the broader framework of global innovation.
The ongoing enhancement of the program reinforces Dubai’s standing as a center for knowledge-based industries and advanced technology enterprises, solidifying Dubai Silicon Oasis’ pivotal role as an integrated ecosystem fostering innovation-driven economic growth.
