Microsoft has announced significant enhancements to its Copilot application, introducing a new coding tool and an always-on AI agent, as reported by Emirates247. These updates aim to transform Copilot into a comprehensive solution for office workers, integrating essential Office applications directly within the platform.
The latest features include the “Code” tool, which allows users to create applications and dashboards using natural language prompts. This tool is powered by the same technology that underpins GitHub Copilot and is set to be available to early-access customers by the end of this month. Additionally, subscribers of Microsoft 365 Premium and Pro will have the opportunity to preview this feature later in the year.
Another notable addition is “Autopilot,” a revamped version of the previously introduced “Scout” AI agent. This digital coworker will have its own identity within the company directory and will come with specific permissions that users can manage. Microsoft plans to roll out Autopilot in a private preview at the end of the month.
Annie Pearl, Corporate Vice President of Copilot Product, highlighted the challenges organizations face in integrating AI agents due to concerns around security, compliance, and governance. She emphasized that Microsoft has focused on building these features to ensure they can be effectively utilized within enterprise environments.
In response to growing concerns about the costs associated with AI usage, Microsoft has also introduced cost-management capabilities. These features will provide employees with direct insights into the expenses linked to their AI activities, addressing the increasing apprehension among enterprises regarding unexpected costs from rapid AI adoption.
As Microsoft continues to enhance Copilot, it aims to expand its functionality beyond chat-based interactions, positioning itself competitively against other AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude. The integration of Office applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint into Copilot is expected to facilitate seamless collaboration for users, further solidifying its role as a central tool for productivity.
