Ireland’s Liam Nolan has secured a two-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Abu Dhabi Challenge, following an impressive bogey-free performance that saw him card a seven-under-par 63 at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club. This development was reported by ARN News Centre.
The 26-year-old from Galway began the third round tied for the lead with Finland’s Tapio Pulkkanen and Belgium’s Matthis Besard. With seven birdies throughout the round, Nolan now stands at 16 under par for the tournament.
Pulkkanen is in second place after shooting a 65, while Italy’s Matteo Cristoni and Switzerland’s Benjamin Rusch are one shot behind him. Nolan, who is in his second full season on the HotelPlanner Tour, is eager to capture his first professional title and is prepared for the heightened pressure that comes with leading.
He expressed that while he anticipates feeling nerves he hasn’t experienced in the first three rounds, he views them positively. Nolan recalled feeling nervous during the Irish Open, describing it as a thrilling experience where every shot carries more significance.
Looking ahead, Nolan aims to maintain his current game plan as he prepares for the final round. He is currently ranked 43rd on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, just within the top 45 who will qualify for the season-ending Grand Final in Mallorca later this month. A victory in the UAE would elevate him to 13th place, putting him in a strong position for promotion and potential DP World Tour playing rights in 2027.
Pulkkanen, a two-time winner on the HotelPlanner Tour, is also vying for his second title of the season, having previously won the Danish Golf Challenge. The final round of the Abu Dhabi Challenge is set to commence at 7:00 AM on Saturday, with Nolan, Pulkkanen, and Cristoni forming the final group, teeing off at 8:50 AM.
