Senator Dr. Rasha Kelej, CEO of Merck Foundation, has unveiled her inaugural virtual Mentorship and Leadership Platform titled “Beyond Power; Leadership, Global Influence and Impact.” This initiative, launched via Substack, aims to provide an accessible resource for aspiring leaders, particularly women and youth. The platform is designed to inspire, guide, and support individuals from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they can access valuable mentorship and leadership insights.

Dr. Kelej’s platform draws upon her 32 years of experience in leadership and mentorship. It seeks to empower individuals to unlock their potential, achieve their professional and personal goals, and emerge as the leaders of tomorrow. The initiative is open to all, reflecting Dr. Kelej’s commitment to inclusivity.

Recognition and Achievements
Dr. Kelej has been consistently recognized as one of the “100 Most Influential African Women” since 2019. She has also been named one of the “Most Influential Africans 2025” and one of the “100 Most Impactful Voices 2026.” Currently serving as a member of the Egyptian Senate (2020-2025), Dr. Kelej has received the Doctorate of Letters (D.Litt) Honoris Causa from Krishna World University for her commitment to women’s empowerment, girl education, and healthcare transformation in Africa and other developing nations.
Over the past 14 years, she has collaborated with over 33 African and Asian First Ladies, who serve as ambassadors for the Merck Foundation’s “More Than a Mother” initiative. This program aims to address infertility and empower women through education and healthcare.
Impactful Programs and Initiatives
Dr. Kelej has been instrumental in launching several impactful programs, including the “Merck Foundation Scholarships Program.” This initiative has provided over 2,600 scholarships to healthcare providers from 52 countries, covering 44 critical and underserved medical specialties.
In 2015, she founded the “Merck Foundation More Than a Mother” movement, which focuses on empowering infertile and childless women by providing access to information, education, and healthcare. The campaign aims to build equitable reproductive and fertility care capacity, raise awareness about infertility, and support girls’ education.
Dr. Kelej is a staunch advocate for girls’ education, believing it to be a transformative force for communities. Through the “Merck Foundation Educating Linda” program, annual scholarships are awarded to high-performing yet underprivileged schoolgirls. To date, more than 1,500 scholarships have been granted to girls from 21 African countries, covering essential educational expenses.
