Informa Markets Strengthens Food Security with Launch of “FoodGuard” Summit in Egypt, in Collaboration with UNIDO

Cairo – Informa Markets, a leading organizer of trade exhibitions, has announced the inaugural “FoodGuard” Summit, set to take place from June 2 to June 4, 2026, at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo. This summit will be part of the 14th edition of Fi Africa and ProPak MENA 2026, a premier platform for food manufacturing, ingredients, packaging, and processing in the Middle East and Africa.

Government Support and Strategic Partnerships

The FoodGuard Summit will receive significant backing from the Egyptian government, with the patronage of four ministries: the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the Ministry of Industry, and the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade. This support underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing food security, developing the food manufacturing sector, and improving supply chain efficiency through innovative and sustainable solutions. Such initiatives aim to solidify Egypt’s role as a regional hub for food manufacturing and export.

High-profile attendees will include Dr. Sharif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, and H.E. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, who are expected to deliver keynote addresses. Their involvement highlights the government’s dedication to advancing food security and supply chain development in Egypt and the broader region.

A Gathering of Industry Leaders

The summit is anticipated to attract a diverse group of participants, including senior officials, deputy ministers, representatives from international organizations, CEOs of leading food industry companies, investors, and experts. This convergence reflects Egypt’s growing significance as a center for food industries and supply chains.

International partnerships will be crucial for the summit’s success, facilitating dialogue among key stakeholders and contributing to the comprehensive development of the food industry. Notable partners include the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), the International Fruit and Vegetable Juice Association (IFU), and several others. Their participation indicates a strong interest from global and regional institutions in contributing to the development of the food industry in Egypt and beyond.

Focus on Food Security and Innovation

The FoodGuard Summit aims to fortify the food security ecosystem by providing a platform for strategic dialogue among decision-makers, manufacturers, investors, and experts. The summit seeks to transform challenges in food security into investment opportunities and partnerships that yield tangible results, thereby supporting the growth of the food industry and enhancing supply chain efficiency across the region.

Over 250 leaders and specialized experts in food security will convene to address critical issues such as reducing food waste, fostering innovation in supply chains, and emphasizing the private sector’s role in financing and developing the food industry. Discussions will also cover advancements in packaging and processing technologies, as well as the development of cold chains linked to the food industry, ensuring high standards of quality and safety.

Mostafa Khalil, Group Director at Informa Markets, emphasized the importance of organizing events that facilitate knowledge exchange among specialists and foster partnerships between public and private sectors. He noted that these efforts support sustainable outcomes that advance long-term development goals and encourage investment in the industrial sector.

Regional Implications and Future Growth

Gunther Beger, Managing Director of the Directorate for SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation, highlighted the necessity of cooperation among countries to develop the food industry. He stressed the importance of integrating efforts among stakeholders to minimize food waste and strengthen food security for a larger population. The focus will be on creating efficient, sustainable food systems that enhance food quality and safety while promoting trade at both regional and international levels.

Fi Africa and ProPak MENA 2026 are recognized as among the largest specialized events in Africa and the Middle East, dedicated to food and beverage ingredients, manufacturing, processing, and packaging. The exhibitions are expected to feature over 400 exhibitors and attract more than 16,000 industry specialists, serving as a vital regional platform for the growth of the food manufacturing sector and its supply chains.

The event will further bolster Egypt’s position as a regional hub for food manufacturing and exports, leveraging its strategic location that connects Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. This makes Egypt an ideal venue for hosting such a significant event, particularly in light of the rapid growth of the food industry and the increasing demand for innovation and enhanced competitiveness in supply chains.
